Question Where are you grounding your HU?

Hello,
I am currently installing a new HU and have a question as to where to run the ground wire (best location)?
I bought the Scosche aftermarket wiring harness ('95 Nissan and up, NN03B). After talking to a tech at Scosche, he indicated to NOT connect the black wire from their harness to the harness that came with my new head unit. He said that the black that is wired in the factory harness in the 350Z goes nowhere?
Well, I am wondering how the factory CD receiver was then grounded?
Anyways, he indicated to run the black from the aftermarket wiring harness to the metal frame somewhere close, but the closest place that I can find (metal to metal) is one of the bolts that holds the shifter top assembly to the center of the frame. That seems like kind of a long run for a ground....I was always told to keep then as short as possible.......

The LAST thing I want is to get that aweful alternator whine through the HU.....
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Theres a big ground point near the top (where the 3 gauges are)

I ran my ground to one of the bolts that holds the shifter to the floor underneath the console. It is kinda long for a ground, but it works fine as far as I'm concerned. I have had mine that way for about a month and a half and everything is great. So that is where I say to put it.

By the way, I do not have any engine or alt. noise due to this ground point. Everything sounds crystal clear.

Default That is great for Pioneer MP3 players..

That is good that you are using that grounding point. I was kinda worried that something might fall out if I removed that bolt from the shifter .
I am putting in a Pioneer DEH-P760MP, very similar to your model, so I should not experience any alternator noise either.
Thanks,
