Default Need help with Bose HU

I am going to do my stereo system myself. I am going to keep the stock Bose headunit. I have been reading on here that you have to put a converter from high level output to 'rca' low level outputs.

Can anyone here tell how complicated this is. I didn't know if the bose amp or anything makes a difference on putting a converter on the HU.

I will be running all new speaker wire to the amp and not utilizing the stock speaker wire to the original amp or HU whatever the case may be.

Any help or insight would greatly be appreciated.

The easiest way to do this project is using a LOC like the AudioLink Pd-4. From reports on this board the PD-4 is not terribly difficult to setup, and is deffinately the safest way to go.

It is not, however, the only way to go. My installer was able to get line-level ouputs from my Bose HU to be put into my aftermarket amp, without the use of any additional hardware. It was explained to me that a one point in the Bose HU, the signal is at line level. He had to tap into that line and solder a new lead onto it, to head to my amps. It was a difficult proceedure, I am told, but works great in the end. The intire HU is left unharmed by this, and can be returned to the stck setup in no time at all.

Thanks for the info. What is the process for putting a converter on? Is it just the 2 speaker leads to a converter. Or do have to supply power to the converter also?

not 100% on this, maybe someone who has done it can chime in on my accuracy, but i think that there are rca leads which go to the Bose external amplifier. You take those into the PD-4, and then output line-level outs via RCAs to your amplifier of choice.

I would say before. Some people are mounting their converters in the dash behind the HU.
