Default Wierd.. My Focal 165v2 not as loud as stock??

So I finally got around in installing my Focal 165v2 component into the doors. For some reason, it sound smaller then the stock speakers under 65w RMS amps.

With stock, running of the amp, it sound pretty damn good.
Stock at about volumn level 15-25 is damn loud...

But with focals the range is like 20-30 to get same loudness.
??
these speakers are rated at 93 SPL..

I am using stock speakers wire from harness to door.
Should I run better wireS?

Thanks

Hmm, that does sound odd given the sensitivity. sure you don't have the polarity swapped somehow?

For those Focals you need a "clean" amp with a minimun of 100Wx2. With a 150 watt amp they'll really sing.

The issue you are dealing with has nothing to do with sound quality and everything to do with driver efficiency. The stock speakers (drivers) are more efficient than the Focals, but are of far lower quality. Get an external amp with around 100W rms and you will hear an improvement.

Well I do notice that is alot clearer at higher volume.
I'm running 65 RMS to each which is about the right amount for these.

Anyhow, why does the back stock speaker sound like shitz?
Would changing it to Focals help alot?
I notice stock form, the front sound alotttt better..

The rears sound like poo because now your ears have something to reference their sound to the sound of the focals. Your comps are rated for 75W nominal (min)....150W Max RMS. A 65 watt amp won't do jack for these speakers. Here is a link for your speaker specs: http://www.focal.tm.fr/gb/car/archiv...glass/165v.htm

Also note they only go down to 60Hz so you will need a sub to make the whole system sound better.

The focals are 75w RMS my amp is 65w RMS, aint that pretty close? would 10 xtra watt make it sound a hella lot difference?

I actually have a wood/fiberglass box made to fit in the old sub location. The sub sound good.

Rear stock speaker sound like shitz b4 I put on the focal.
When I amplified the front and back oem speaker... the front sounded really good. The back... garbage.

I was just wondering if it's the speakers or the placement.
I want to replace it with more focals but not if it sound like crap still.

I tried droping the rear totally but didnt like how the sound is not 360.

75 Watts is the nominal power, this is the lowest power that set of speakers need to sound "accurate". Sorry 65W ain't gonna cut it! Go with 100W+ RMS. You have an excellent set of comps but you need to send more power to them. If you get Focals for the rear they will need to be amped also to sound "good". Also if you are using the stock HU they still won't sound as well as they should.

I've been down the same road....first speakers then, this part, and another. Its an integarted system, you started with one of the best speaker manufacturers and now the rest of your system will need the "higer end" audio gear to keep up.

Thanks for the replies..

Yeah, I also though Nominal = RMS
Which we try to match the amp to the speakers RMS values.
It's over to have a bit higer RMS.

Eddie,
How thick of a spacer did you use for the door speakers?
I had 3/4 but it was not enough so I added 1/2 now it's too thick and is basically touching the speaker grill frame.

I've always took nomnial to equate the lowest constant (i.e. minimum).

I used to the stock speaker spacer. Just tore out the speaker. But I have Alpine Type X comps, they may be a bit shorter than your Focals.

The car audio monster is an expensive beast to feed.....
