Default Upgrade base Z to use homelink system?

Does anyone know if it's possible to upgrade the mirror on the base model Z so the homelink system one? I have having to store the big remote for the garage door opener =) call me lazy

just wondering if theres a way to swap mirrors "if it has the wires run for it and so on"

Thanks!

hey, before you go to all the trouble, check the manual on your garage door. with a lot of newer garage door openers, there's a code that changes every time you use it. if so, the homelink system won't work. it doesn't work at my house. just a heads-up.

You should still be able to use Homelink with one of the newer garage door openers with the rotating code. I didn't have to worry about it since my opener is really old. The directions for programming the Homelink for a new door included instructions for dealing with the variable code. Had something to do with flipping a switch on the opener to put it into "learn" mode.

You have to push a little button normally underneath the light cover. That is the learn button for the garage door. Then within 30 secs, you have to push the button you are trying to program--press and hold a few times, and it will work.

this should help you out

Thanks for all the replys but Im not to worried about getting it to work with the garage door more so pluging everything into my Z becuase the base model has a basic none powered mirror Im guessing the upper model mirrors plug into something or I might have to hardwire them into the car

I believe all you need is a power connection to do it, and the plug is probably there since it wouldn't make sense for Nissan to make different wiring harnesses for a mirror. It would probably behoove you to poke around in that area to see if there is a plug or not before buying anything.

From a guy that had a base and now has an enthusiast, ship the homelink. The homelink mirror looks gigantic compared to the non-homelink model. A small remote on the passenger sunvisor isn't worth the cost and bulkiness of the homelink mirror.

even though i had a touring my Z didn't come with a homelink b/c the mirror was replaced and the guy didn't tell me.

So put my regular garage door opener remote in the sunvisor and just flip it out and hit the button!

I just finished doing just that. It took about 1 hour but it is well worth it . You can find the mirror and install kit on the net for about 259.00.
