just wondering, I have seen pics of avic-N1 with h/u below and I have seen some w/o. I understant that the avic-n1 does everything, what is the purpose for the h/u below?

 

I have a headunit underneath. Only because it was a headunit I already had. I have it hooked up so that I can leave the nav disc in the AVIC-N1 and play mp3 cd's on the other unit (DEH-9600MP). In reality, I could get by without the additional head unit as the memory nav feature works great and most of the time I'm not using the nav feature anyways.

 

yeah, the unit has good memory. you don't really need another one if you don't mind changeing the cd every time you put in a new destination. not a hassle at all. a cd changer can help too
