Default where to ground head unit??

Started installing an Alpine 9815 head unit last night, got everything wired up except the ground. I was thinking about connecting it to one of the bolts that holds the shifter in place. I noticed a few other people have done that, is that a good place? Also, do I need to scratch some paint off around the bolt or is it conductive enough already?

Do any other head units require a ground seperate from the wiring harness?

There's a ground bolt just behind the three computer indicators on the top of the console. Just run your ground wire on the left side through the plastic housing of the console, crimp on a ground lug to your head unit ground wire, and stack it on the ground bolt. No abrasion required.

I grounded multiple items to this bolt, it worked great.

I thought about that and may end up doing it. The only problem is that the ground wire I already have is not long enough, so I would have to solder some more wire in inside my new car~! (already soldered the power wire in, don't want to do it again).
Thanks for the response.

If anyone has had success with the shifter bolts, please let me know. I want to get my car back together asap.

Well, I went home over lunch and finished the install. I couldn't bare to have my new car in pieces like that...

The stereo ground wire was actually long enough to reach the ground behind the 3 center gauges.

Sounds pretty good even with the stock speakers. Next step is installing the Focal PolyKevlars I took out of my last car.

Thanks for the help.
