Just curious how much the addition of this headunit will improve sound quality, I getting JLs installed as well probably with a 4 channel amp...how will all of this sound/work together?
Thanks!

I had the "Blose" in both cars.
It actually sounds better in the Altima than in the Z.
Anything that you get is better than the "Blose".
I've had Alpine and you will not be dissapointed with Eclipse.
Don't skimp on the amps or speakers either. Make sure that you get good quality stuff to back up your head unit.
Good luck!

What would you use to connect a 4 channel amp and a 1ch mono amp for a sub?

Eclipse's web site has nothing next listed in the specs.
I'll call and ask my Eclipse dealer.
I was thinking of trading up to that model anyway.

I just had an AVX2494 installed in my 350z and it does not have preouts. I'm using line out converters and a 4 channel Memphis amp. I'm having the headunit power the rears and I'm using the amp to power the fronts and the sub.
I've got it hooked up to Focals, and it sounds pretty good. I have to admit I haven't really compared it to anything, but it sounds good enough for my tastes and it's certainly 1000's of times better than the blose.
The HDD works really well when there is CDDB information for the disc your recording. If not you have to manually enter in the song titles/cd info which can be a pain. It took me about 10 minutes to enter in a CD which wasn't in the database.
The database is supposed to be updatable, but an eclipse tech told me that it's probably not going to happen unless they sell some more units.
The other problem i have is that there are only 6 radio presets. You can have the autoprogram run and it will give you another 6, but you cannot save those.
Other than those two issues, I really like the headunit. DVD quality is great, and the interface is easy to use. If you have any questions, or need some pics of what it looks like let me know and I'll post them.
Also, on a sidenote, I originally had the focals hooked up to the stock bose head unit and putting in the Eclipse DID make a difference in sound quality. However, the lack of preouts don't make it the ideal SQ headunit.

Does the 2494 have 5.1 surround decoder?

If you can post some pics of it installed and even some of its screen pics--such as sound field dsp, lps, eq, would be great!
I don't understand either why this doesn't have pre-outs.
Does it have an Elan connector for a cd changer? ( not that you wuld really need one since it is HDD)

The AVX2494 doesn't have a 5.1 decoder, I believe only the 2404 does.
You can hook up to two additional CD Changers to the head unit. I believe they are "plug and play" so if you don't have the CD changers installed, there is no button to press on the screen.
Also, the Head Unit comes with a Nav Attenna which I had installed, even though there is currently no Nav system for the AVX2494. It's only function is to keep the clock accurate, but I talked with an eclipse rep and they told me that if they were to make a NAV ready HDD for this unit, you could swap out the existing HDD and have a fully functional NAV system.
I will post pics tomorrow.

I'm assuming Eclipse did not put pre-outs on the 2494 so you can integrate a new HU with the stock speakers and not have to add an additional amp. I know when I added an Eclipse HU to my Blose in my maxima, the sound was completely crap because I have to convert from pre-out to line level (i think). So as I stated originally, I think it was to have the HU integrated w/ stock speakers.
