Default pre-wired for satellite?

I'm picking up my 2005 Touring Coupe next week, and want to get Sirius installed in it. I didnt get it as a factory option since I didnt like the location of the antenna on the roof.

Is the headunit pre-wired for satellite?

If the unit is pre-wired for satellite does that mean that the only thing that I need is the antenna installed in the car, and I can just use the headunit to tune the Sirius stations?

I could be wrong and if I am im sure someone will let us know but i dont think its prewired for it.
Your best bet would have been to just got them to install it from the factory and be done with it.
Thats what Im starting to find out now.
I didnt get sirius when i wanted it from the factory and its becoming a pain to find a good looking unit that i like that supports sirius.
If i had it to do again id just let the factory do it.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Unless I am mistaken there are no extra wires for the Satellite. You'll need to get a Sirius brain for Clarion and then wire it. The new brains don't need power but you will need to run the controller. And you can put the antenna in the dash so since you have to remove the console to put the antenna you won't need to remove much more to put the rest in.

Just one thing, make sure the radio you are getting is Sirius ready, if not then all this is a moot point.

But I agree the stock antenna location is one of the stupidest things I have ever seen. You figure they would have made it better. I'm sure they'd sell alot more if they did.

G/L. And if you have any questions about a self install let me know, my Siruis works great and you can't see any of it.

Thanks. I was under the impression that the Bose head-unit that comes with the touring model is sirius ready. Is that not the case?

Not 100% sure on that. I do know that the bose does have a secondary input for a CD changer, but that won't help to display the sirius info on screen. You'd have to go aftermarket controller if that is the case.

But you should be able to look at the back of the radio and see. Or just ask to make sure, the salesman will tell you if it is satellite ready, then get him to write it in the contract and if it turns out to not be ready then he'll have to replace it since it was on the contract.

If it's too late for that, not much more I can help you with here. I have an 04 and I upgraded the H/U on mine, and my clarion radio did not have the satellite inputs. Only reason I know this is I was trying to get my stock radio to digitally input Siruis, but it couldn't be done on mine, so I looked into a siruis ready radio from nissan and they wanted $1500 for it!!!!!!!!!

Good Luck.

touring bose radio should be sirius ready. If it says Radio on the controls instead of am/fm, it should be sirius read.

But, it seems pricey to get the sirius tuner from nissan. If you find where to get this, I would like to know.

The sirius tuner fits behind the passenger seat. In the roadster, they claim that they don't run the harness necessary for the tuner.

Bose radio does say "radio" on it sales guy who did the walk through couldnt answer whether the head unit was satellite ready.

He basically said he thought I'd still need the external sirius tuner to run it.

The Bose unit in the Touring is Satellite ready. You have to purchase the antenna and the tuner, but your existing head unit controls the receiver/tuner.

I've seen tuners for satellite ready stereos at Best Buy - it's just a box you can mount behind the dash, but I think you still need a special NISSAN adapter to plug it in to the head unit.

I really wish there was mp3 compatablity on the Bose, instead it has a TAPE DECK

Default Sirius w/ Bose HU

Yes, the new Bose HU's are satellite ready. It enables you to use the radio button to toggle to SA1 & SA2. I used a NIS PAC to directly hard wire the Sirius receiver:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW

It definitely sounds a lot better than a FM Modulator set up. It has no hiss & provides CD quality sound. It completed my sound system & am very happy w/ it.

Am I reading your sig correctly that you have an Enthus? Did you rip out the stock head unit and put a Bose in there from someone off the forums?

Im somewhat confused.
If you buy the gadget from ebay then all you should have to do is have the default bose hu, the gadget, a tuner and an antenna.
Why do you have the setup in the cubby?

Your Bose does have the ability to control the satellite without a seperate unit. May be a more expensive option because you have to buy the adapter from Nissan (tuner to hu).

Yes, I had the single CD Clarion HU in my Enthusiast & bought a 2004 6 CD Bose satellite ready HU (black face) from Ebay. It works with the Audio Link LOC & harness from (linkmeup.com). I then installed the PAC NIS to hardwire the Sirius satellite Audiovox PNP2 receiver in the cubby to the Bose HU. Just beware when buying the 6 CD HU as the CD mechanism breaks in shipping. It happened to me twice & had to have the CD assembly replaced ($250). The HU needs to be shipped in a locked position w/ a white plactic lock on top to avoid internal CD components from being jarred & breaking.

In order to subscribe to XM or Sirius, you will need to purchase a receiver. If your Bose HU is not satellite ready (old 2003 model-grey face). You could use a FM modulator connection (sound quality comparable to FM stereo). However, if it is satellite ready then the sound will be CD digital quality.

I have my windows tinted and when I had the antenna temporarily mounted to the strut it worked fine. But it looked like a$$. There are really 3 places you can hide the antenna.

The stock nav antenna is just to the front right of the steering wheel if you take that cover off, I put mine behind the center console (don't have a pic here at work, sorry) and you can put it under the plastic in the strut bar. Basically it will go through anything but metal. My signal is great going through plastic and the front glass. If you need more info let me know, I can get pics later.

As I said in my original post, you need the tuner/receiver that can be mounted out-of-sight, antenna and the adapter for the tuner connection to the Bose head unit. Then your BOSE will control the tuner, no need to mount another unit to tune stations, no need for the PAC AAI-NIS, etc. You hit the Radio Button on the Bose, select Saatellite, tune with existing Bose controls - Just like the factory install. This is only for the Sat Ready units from 2004 MY.

What your saying makes a lot of sense. I haven't been able to figure out any reasonable install of a pnp into my 350z roadster.

The receiver is about 265 and the antenna for sirius is about 40. That means, that the factory install is about 100$ more than a pnp. Thats a reasonable tradeoff.

What I need to know is that it is going to work after I rip everthing apart. I have the 350z roadster 2004.5 touring model. It definitely haas the sat radio. I assume that I need to buy the tuner plus a sirius antenna. What about the harness. How do we know for sure that the harness is installed? I have the nav and it makes sense that the radio harness might be part of that harness.

I live in Boulder CO - do you know of any dealers out here that know what they are talking about? A dealer should be able to easily tell me exactly what I need. Then, I will buy the radio from grubbs

Has anyone done this install and if so, can we get a how to.

You may want to check w/ Zboater. He also has a roadster w/ Sirius.
