Default audio upgrade setup...opinions

ok, i'm still deciding on a HU and rear fill speakers.

based on my budget i'm looking at the following setup:
FRONT:
Boston 6.5 RC620 midrange/tweeter, 4 ohm, 275W, 6.5" ($200)
SUB:
Infinity Kappa 100.3SE, 10", component, 1-way, 275W ($95)
AMP:
Boss Riot 945 x6 ($170)
(they don't have power ratings...funny don't you think?i'm assuming it has 6 channels?)
Rear fill:
Infinity ref. 6002I Coax, 2way, mid/tweeter, 6.5",60W ($75)
HU
Alpine 9835 or similar

What do you guys think?

I like the Alpine's I have. I wanted light weight and at only 6 pounds each, the M350 and F240 sound great IMO. About $140 each on E-bay or up to $200 each elsewhere.

I tried 3 other cheaper amps Kenwood, Sony, and some offbrand...didn't like any of them

i assume that i need the 4 channel and also the one channel for all my 4 speakers and subwoofer, respectively. thanks for the input. if my speakers are 275W rated, and the amp is 4x40 for 4 ohm speakers, will they still power the speakers well.

also, if my total output is 160 watts (4x40) is it possibe to up the power to my fronts to 50 each and 30 for the rears? is this adjustment possible with amps. sorry for my ignorance

It isn't, but some amps have staggered power ratings, like, 100x2 for the front and 25x2 for the rear, or something like that.

I don't know the power requirements of those speakers offhand, but you may want to look into the JL 500/5 amp, which is 100x2 front, 25x2 rear, and 250x1 for the sub channel. should work nicely. It's a lot more than $200 though, but I doubt there's any good, clean 5 channel amps available at that price point.

wow $600 dollars, but sounds pretty perfect for our car (a 2 seater sports car)...guess i'll have to continue to save $. anyone else have something similar to 500/5.

i checked out another amp..what about phoenix gold r9 0:5 50wx4 (4ohm) + 150w ($400 or so)

or alpine MRV 450 30x4 + 150W ($300)

Zenvy,

I have two amps for sale. It was used only 3 months. They are good amps. I revamped my whole system again and don't have much use for them.

PG Octane R5.0:4 (4channel). I bought it for $180 shipped. I will sell it for $140 shipped.

PG Octane R5.0:1 (mono). I bought it for $205 shipped. I will sell it for $150 shipped.

I have the boxes and docs. Let me know.

Thanks,
Tony

^^Good price, good amps and a good guy. One of these days you might actually finish your system. lol

Check out Memphis Audio also. They have very small, strong 5ch amps.

Zenvy, perhaps you can skip the amp for the rears temporarily. Run the fronts/sub with a nice 4/3 amp (bridged sub) and the rear with the head unit. Then in the future, run the front/rear with the 4 ch amp and get a mono amp for the sub.

wow...i never knew this would be this complicated...thank you for the input. does this mean the rear speakers would be able to be run thought the HU even AFTER a new HU install? i'm confused now i really do like learning all the intricacies of stereo set-ups and you guys are definitely giving me a crash course in stereo 101. So dannichols, what do you think about those phoenix gold r5 0:9 amps in the above replies?

thanks again guys...i plan on purchasing the stereo by december (after turkey day )
