Default Question about SoundStream Amps

I was upgrading my sound system since someone decided to break into my car and I am using insurance money to buy new stuff. I was going to buy a new rockford 800.2 amp for my subs yet the salesman eventually convinced me to get a soundstream 600.2 amp instead swearing up and down you will end up with more reliable power. He also said that the soundstream will never over heat blah blah blah. just curious what your opinion was. thx for any help.

For subs I would go class D. Never noticed a diff in sound (I have a class A/B knock off Arc Audio 1500DR .. no diff) and they are cheaper / more efficient.

I had a Ref200(I think it was the model) runnin a JL 10" in 95. The amp lasted me three months. Installed a Rockford Punch 75. Its been in the same spot since the summer of 95. NOT ONE PROBLEM. Knock on wood. Two years ago I hooked up two RF 12" to this 75 watt amp.

I don't know what it is but Soundstreams are not too reliable in my opinion.

In 1996 I ordered a Reference 405S off the net. NEVER WORKED. Soundstream wants $125 just to look at it. The 90 day warranty was expired when I tried to install it.

I heard that Soundstream recently went bankrupt so all their warranties are void now anyway... I, personally, would stay away from them. Stick to something more reliable like Alpine. The best thing about Alpine is that whenever you call customer service they help you in 2 seconds, no questions asked.

Soundstream was bought out by Lightning Audio 2 years ago.
My guy that I get all my audio stuff from is an authorized Soundstream distributor and he said something about Soundstream warranties being suspended because something went wrong with them. Being that I dont own anything from Soundstream I wasnt paying too much attention though, so maybe I heard him wrong. Look into it more I guess.

I'd stay away. Not the same since they got bought out.

I don't think soundstream was bought out by Lighting audio, Lighting is owned by Rockford anyways. Soundstream used to be very good, reliable equipment, but i'd stay away from the recent offerings. I live by the motto, buy cheap, buy twice. In the audio industry you almost always get what you pay for.
