Everything else being equal..........
How much difference would it make in sound quality and volume by swtiching out an amp rated at 75 watts RMS with one that has 150 watts RMS?
Let's say the subwoofer can handle 200 watts RMS and 1000 watts peak.

ok. Let me get this right. U have a 200watt RMS sub. powered by a 75watt amp....... You are wondering will u see a noticable difference if u upgade toa 150watt amp. The answer is very simple. YES (assuming the quality is pretty much equal on both amps)

Youre also working the amp and sub harder with the lower rated amp. More subs break because they're underpowered.

also, it is generally a good rule of thumb to have more then you need in power such that you are able to turn the amp down or in other words, you want as much head room as possible.

Thanks for the replies.
Generaly speaking, it appears to me that most common subwoofers have a RMS rating and PEAK rating much higher than the less than $500 amps can handle.

I got your pm and tried to reply but it said your inbox was too full...
but here is what I said basically...
.5 to 1.5 is fine for that sub, what kind of music do you listen to?... If its anything other than rap, then .5 to 1.5 is good. If you listen to rap IE bass tends to be deeper, then 1 to 1.5.
Although, I had a box with two of those subs in it which only had about .9 cu without subs in it and everything I threw at them sounded great. With that said, the sub is extremely versatile.
You said you will be running a pg 8.0.1 to the sub at 300 watts rms.
Stay above .5 and you will be happy.
btw, with my new set up....
I am running a xenon 1200.1 to my two tens in boxes about 1.2 or 1.5... they are a little large for that amp but I havent heard it yet

Nothing breaks from being underpowered .. it's the human side of the equation .. when something is underpowered and you still want it loud, there's a tendency to turn it up ..
