just got done with another 350z...this time its o snap its eric
the goals:
1. good sound quality on a budget
2. total stealth, meaning ideally, nothing is visible normally.
3. some show factor
the package consists of:
eclipse cd5444 supplied by customer
DLS ultimate Up36 3 way component set
dual ED nine2x
single ED 11ov2 10" sub
lets get started:
first the front stage, the midbass was installed in the stock lower door location, and the midrange and tweeter flush mounted into the kicks, overall this set up like always, provides a high sound stage and good smoothness across the range.
of course the main attraction is the trunk, as stated before, the main goal is a completely hidden install...so here is what it looks like when the trunk is opened. as you can see, the floor was barely rased an inch, and the stock trunk mat still fits fine...saving virtually all the cargo space and definetly pretty stealthy:
now lest take a look at whats below the stock carpet
the entire floor is done in black suede. a grille clothed cover upfront, and two vinyled cover on the back...providing a solid floor to load things onto:
now lets get those covers off and go into show mode
11ov2 is flush mounted in a white vinyl trimmed baffle, and the dual nine2x are exposing their circuitry. waht i did was an old school type of thing, basically remove the bottom cover off the amp, adn then make a new cover with plexi. with these amps, i also unscrewed the top logo plate, trimed the screws so they wont protrude past the plate into the plexi, and secured them to the top of hte amp, a little extra touch never hurts
two fans constantly blow air across the amps to provide cooling and i deliberaly left about a 1/4" gap around all the fake floor to allow air to escape and recirculate.
one final pic, since i got a few PM and emails asking to see waht the install looks like beneath the floor, about how i do wires, and if i run them cleanly...
well here you go
no flying wires everywhere in this car
sounds pretty good i would say, even though i cant figure out how to run this darn eclipse HU to tune it yet lol...
enjoy.

its not 8volt...its 5, i didnt find it
ravi, dont you agree this is liket he baby brother of your install? hehe...
honestly, with your car, i am nto sure if i recommend reverse plexi, you are pushing the nine2x to its max, and its trying to disspate a lot heat, where as this is running at 4ohm pushing a little 10...you wouwant literally two large squirell cage fans right next to your amps to make this work...but you know there isnt enough room

figured out the HU...sounds pretty good, though i may cut him out a custom carpet mat to go over this, the stock rubber mat buzzes a bit under certain frequencies....we will see...in the past, its hit or miss with rubber trunk mats, some work fine, like the one in my car, beucas ethey areheavy enough to stay put, and bass sounds great, but the Z mat seems to be too light and the air lifts it up and causes it to hit back against the floor...but..either way, i will get it figure out

this setup is cool because from the outside you can't really hear too much. Almost sound like a powered sub like the infinity basslink but once you get inside the car its a different story. Definitly the 350z and the setup keeps the music in the car for me to enjoy and not too loud for outsiders to hear me as i stop on a red light.
I tuned it a little for my likings and it sounds good. The speakers are awsome but have yet to learn every feature so i can only expect better sounding as i learn more. As for the sub, i have to learn how much power to put in it because my music that i listen to varies so much, some days i want heavy thumping bass and others days i dont want it or when there is a song i want my bass to shine but it doesnt for some reason so i woul dhave to put more power to the sub but right after that song i have too much bass for the next one playing.

paul, if you read my post, you will know that there are two fans on either side constantly blowing air at them, and there are slight gaps between the amp and the floor to allow air to escape, and recirculate

Sweet, sweet, sweet...
As much as I love my installers job, I wish you were within my driving range and could of done something similiar for my vehicle. Your installs are always a treat.

about how much room do you have from the sub to the stock carpet? My 130v'2 has some excursion and I really want to redo my setup to a spare tire well, any problems with the sub hitting the trunk mat when it's in "stealth" mode?

well, the sub is flsuh mohnted, there is a vented cover thats a little sapced out from it, so basicaly, the sub sits about 3/4" away from the grille clothed cover plate, and then the carpet sits on top...
as i stated, the stock rubber mat does make a funyn noise when its on, so i cut him out another carpet mat to match...
but the sub wont be physically hitting anyhting...
