Default Pics of Xenarc 7 inch touchscrren

Here are some pics of my install of the Xenarc 7 inch VGA touchscreen. The pics are kind of bad, my digital camcorder is the only digital camera I have.

First is the back of the screen in the Nav compartment.

There is one issue I need to work out. The buttons that are used to contral the screen nee to be extened. I am thinkig of drilling holes in the little cover where the nav controls should be and using something to extend the buttons.

Very very good news. How hard was it to take the casing off the screen? What are you using for a power source?

I have tons of questions.

Any cutting involved? Please gives us the details on how you mounted it. Does it fill the entire opening of the nav area?

When you cut off power do you have to reset limits of screen (to maximize the view)

The text in the picture looks kinda blurry. How does it look in person. What is the smallest visible font size?

Thanks guys for the comments, this is the first part of my car pc I am working on. Right now it is still in testing using a laptop to run the screen. I have a Via 800mhz with 512 Ram, DVD and 30gig laptop HD I am working on and should be done very soon. All I have to do is figure out how to power the pc. I got one of the 60W 12 dv to 12dc power supplies from Mini-box.com but am having issues with it and the board.

The touchscreen is very nice, it uses the serial port of the pc to control it. There is custom software that comes with the monitor which was very easy to install and setup.

Some answers to your questions:

WebToker:

1. The case is very easy to take off. It has 6 screws holding it together and a few clips. I had to use some double sided tape once all the screws were off to secure the touchscreen board to the back of the screen.

2. Right now power is coming from an inverter. I will be doing some work to get this done another way soon and will post details later.

AAAA:

1. It set me back $550, but it will be worth it when my car pc is complete to have 100% touchscreen functionality.

phillips69:

1. I did nothing special to ge the display to work. In some resolutions the image is streached some, but not very much. The screen was set to 640x480 in these pics, but can go all the way to 1024x768.

abz123:

1.No cutting was for these pics. The button issue will require some holes drilled into the bracket and the cover where the nav controls are to alow the use of the buttons without taking the screen out. Should not be a big deal, drill a few hols add some spacers to the buttons and use the original buttons attached to the spacers.

2. I used Scotch Heavy duty mounting tape to attach the screen to the console. Strips run all around the edge of the sceen and is held in very tight.

3. The screen and the hole for the nav are almost identical. None of the screen is cut off by the hole and no need to add any boaders around it either. A perfect fit.

3. The screen has an auto adjust feature, when the screen is powered back on it automaticaly readjust to fit the full screen. It does have controls to adjust it, but I have had no need to adjust it at all.

4. Sorry the camera I used really sucks, the text is perfect in person. I have not tested font sizes yet, but I will do a test and let you know.

cool, seems like I got the right screen then . I would've got mines in by now too, if I wasn't waiting for them to send me a new one

the smallest font i tested was 6, but you have to get close up to see it. 8-12 seems to work fine.

and power on and off the screen keeps it's settings (well for the new ones that is.)

Great job dmazyn. Can't wait to do mines now. Seems like it fits with no mod (hope I'm right)

As for the buttons, i would just get some push switch from like radio shack and some wire to solder them to the buttons. Or with a little know how you can wire it up to the serial port of a pc and control it onscreen from the PC

Excellent!!!!

It would be awesome if you could find someone near you with a digital camera to take some better pictures.

I would also like to get your review of how the screen looks in daylight - if it is bright enough.

woohoo, you solved that problem for me, xenarc it is. looks awesome too. for the buttons, you could get little plastic dowels, and glue them to the origonal buttons, theyd just extend out through the holes you drilled, should be pretty easy.

so now for the stupid question, everyone with these screens, they are in some sort of mount right? like they add something in there to the mount, its not just a regular old non nav opening that these are in, they have something underneith the screen thats taking up space, where do you get that?
