^^ The the rear pocket on the cubby in the 2003 center console unscrews, making it easier to install a monitor.

Its the storage mini box (you won't need this if you are planning to install a LCD in the cubby.

^^ I didn't need anything other than the stock OEM cubby. I have a 2003 cubby, and simply removed the cubby's rear pocket (it unscrews in the 2003 cubby), and dropped the monitor in place. Just the tight fit would hold the monitor in place, but I used the original screws to add a measure of security. The original screws were tightened lightly into the sides of the monitor.

Hope that explanation is clear and not confusing.

If I'm not mistaken, you can't do this in an 06-08. The cubby swap won't work and you can't fit a screen in the cubbies they come with. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

^^ You can’t swap out the 2007 cubby with a 2003 cubby, so that “easy 7-inch LCD monitor mount capability for the 2003 cubby” isn’t an option in the 2007 car.

Mounting a LCD screen in the 2007 model requires some custom fabrication. You need to cut-out the rear part of the cubby, fabricate a “harness/strap-up” to hold the screen in place, and fabricate trim pieces to flush-fit the forward part of the monitor.

Judging from the lack of responses, I suppose that most people consider this a lot of work and expense when comparing to how easily you can install an “all-in-one” double-din device with a 7” LCD screen inside the Z’s available lower slot.

Of course, there are advantages to mounting a LCD screen in the upper/forward cubby (this position looks great, is more easily viewed, and it's a "natural").

I hope there is a response from someone who has done this.

I finally got to see Duke and he took care of me. Thank you Spike and Duke for facilitating my questions and pointing me in the direction.

Well ill try it as soon as I get home. The worst Ill have to do is to buy a replacement cubby for my 07 I dont believe it will be any harder than a little careful dremeling and some brainstorming. There has to be a way to get it to work..

Thanks Spike.. Again i appreciate the help.

Spike,
Would this be an option..smaller screen but do you think the 07 cubby would fit this better?

That will work, and it’s probably easier to mount. With this said, I’m not a fan of 4.3” monitors. A seven-inch monitor in the upper/forward cubby is more easily viewed and provides a much better view and touchscreen function. But, this is a personal opinion since I like an OEM look.

Installing a 4.3” monitor in the upper/forward cubby won’t require custom fabrication (it will fit inside the cubby without doing anything else). If you decide to do this, you could also go with a Garmin Nuvi since it fits and is detachable for use when leaving the car and going “on foot.”

But then again, controlling the entire CES via a KOS-L432 Touchscreen 4.3” Monitor is a very attractive option. The fact that you can fit this in the upper/forward cubby without custom modification is a major plus.

Hopefully there is someone who has installed (or planning to install) a 7” LCD monitor in the upper/forward cubby in a 2006 or later model Z. But, being a realist, I doubt this is the case; and the lack of posts for this show that most people find it easier to simply install an “all-in-one” device in the Z’s double-din slot.

And once again, I’ve managed to post a long and somewhat confusing message.
