My baby is a work in progress, so I will add pics to this thread as I go.

I will explain my system when I have pictures to assist my explanations, so these pictures here will give you some ideas about what I am up to.

My goal was to make this system as stealth as possible, since I live in Los Angeles, and people here tend to help themselves to things you leave in your car.

Feel free to respond or ask questions.

 

Here is where the amp, cap, distribution blocks, and changer are located- behind the drivers seat.

I ordered the bose-system grill to replace the base compartment cover to help with the cooling of the amp. The two 12-volt fans should make things perfect.

 

The Alpine deck has an mp3 player, so the changer will be for all of my "purchased" music.

 

I know what you mean about people helping themselves to your stuff...

How accessable is the radio in the NAVI space?

The radio just BARELY fits. The Apline face swings out from the bottom to load the disc, and it just clears the door of the NAV compartment. The door closes even with the face on the radio.

The only drawback of this installation (other than the pain-in-the-*** custom dremmeling needed) is the fact that I had to re-route the air conditioning system.

When I installed the deck, I ran all necessary wiring for my amp, speakers, and changer. I did this to avoid having to remove the dash panel again. Unfortunately, I did not take any pictures of that part of the job, and I really hope that I dont have to get back into there. (If I do, I will definitely take pictures.)


If you have ever taken the dash panel off, you will realize that there is a huge box containing a filter and the duct routing for the side and front vents. I had to remove the filter and housing entirely (I havent noticed a difference as far as air quality goes-yet).

From that point, and hours of dremmeling later, I affixed the duct ports back into place on their own (without the filter housing). I also had to cut back a few of the unnecessary plastic pieces behind the dash. You will have to go all of the way back to the steel support bar if you want to get a J-size head unit to fit. Make sure that all of the RCA connectors/ changer input/ aerial lead are all pig tailed before you purchase the head unit, since there is no way it would fit otherwise. For this reason, I recommend Alpine over all others.
