I have all the equipment and my car goes under the knife in the morning. I have seen someone make a custom itouch mount on the upper cubby that I like. Should I do something similar with my ipod video (it would have to be sideways) OR should I maybe have them make an ipod mount for the useless ashtray so it can stand up straight?

Please chime in asap because this is happening in the morning! thanks

 

I like the useless ashtray idea, although I'm not sure if it would get in the way of shifting.

 

ahhh good point. Dammit. I usu. put it there when I'm driving but haven't recently so I don't remember if it gets in the way. ahhh. any other ideas that won't cost me a fortune? This shop can do pretty much anything. If you want a f'in waterfall in the car, they got you. lol

 

sounds like a good idea, but one misplaced elbow from you or a passenger and you could have a flying ipod or even worse a broken one.

 

oh well I have an auto if that helps. But i do rest my hand on the auto allllll the time.

Is it ok if its mounted sideways? I am pretty sure the ipod is controlled on the screen by touch and NOT on the ipod like some other units?

see I'm thinking about doing that with my ipod video sideways position. vs. the ashtray idea. Either way, they have to drill a hole somewhere. Not too many options without going crazy custom. What do you guys think about the above link for the clean look? I am going to think of some idea to hide the avic too.

 

What about in that center spot by your elbow, plenty of space and it just takes one small hole to snake through. I think its alot cleaner then the upper cubby spot.

I dont have heater switches on my z, but i was able to snake it around the e brake linkage and up to the back of the d3. Its hidden in the center console thing. Just need to dremel a small hole

ok its done! I had everything installed and the avic D3 is incredible for the price! Amazing features. I'll write an entire review with pictures shortly. As for the ipod, I did something I haven't seen before on the forum, so I hope you like it. I should be able to have to time to get pics for you guys tommorow. Thanks

I ran into some problems with a bad cord for the ipod so I will try to get it fixed this weekend. Also, my camera is at my g/f's place. And hint: the ipod is not in the cubby its something so very simple but clean looking pics soon! sorry
