How to DIY: Switchblade Key aka Euro Style Flip Key
I just bought my flip key the other day but this is the only key I have that starts my car the others just unlock the doors, can I cut the transponder out of this and use it in my new flip key?
Why are you bumping? Your answer can be found in this thread.
If your current key can start the car and allows you to drive it, then it obviously has the transponder in it. And of course if you just move the chip to a new key, nothing actually changed other than the physical key itself. What do you think will happen, logically?

Why would the outside material (rubber vs plastic) matter? What you're looking for is the transponder chip and your key has it. Move it to your new flip key, get the metal key portion cut, and it'll work.
Even if it did matter, I didn't realize that we were just supposed to assume your key was made of rubber even though nowhere in your original post did you even mention the material (rubber).

I didn't say it was rubber because I was hoping someone that had the same key as mine, and attempted to remove the chip from it would chime in. Not someone that felt the need to try and answer a question they didn't really know the answer to. So to further clarify my originally post; could anybody please tell me if I can remove the transponder from my key without damaging it, and transfer it into my flip key.
Just bought the 'prebuilt' switchblade key from Artiway on eBay for $40. Does anyone know how much it will cost to get the transponder programmed by a dealership? Also should I cut the key at the dealership too? or should I cut it elsewhere and bring it to the dealership to have the transponder programmed..
Take the key to the local Home Depot or Lowes. As long as you provide the key, they'll cut for free.
Thanks! Should I take the blank off of the key fob assembly and hand them ONLY the blank? or should I leave it intact for them to cut.
Also does anyone know how much the dealership charges to reprogram the transponder?

$40 thats kind of high because I only paid around $20-$25 for mine and then pulled all the stuff out of my spare remote and put it in the new one, then cut the chip out of the key and glued it in the top right of the case by the button of new key. I took mine up to nissan and they cut it for free but I also told them I ordered it from nissan LOL. Here is mine...

Damn... got every put together and it works fine. Took it to ACE Hardware those jokes only cut half of it. Took it to HomeDepot and they can't cut it. WTF. I'll go to the dealership tomorrow. I would of gone to dealership in the first place if it wasnt for the fact they're half way across town.
I know this thread is old, but I just did this yesterday to my 03's fob and key. I bought mine from Amazon for ~$13.00; venders name was crystalcity-6662 (I know, wired name), totally worth it, really good quality, it's a pretty resilient material. This whole thread was helpful, just thought I would leave some positive feedback. And yes, getting the chip out is a PITA! Lol
mr2Blackna, I went to a key and lock place who only did half because of a poor fit in their cutter, but I then went to ACE and they were able to cut the other side, hesitantly, but they did. Granted I tried the first place whole fob intact and then ACE with the key blank only. The guy was like the key cutter in the Matrix, I put the finished key in my ignition and turned it and wound up.... JFK, JFK, but really I got it all squared away at ACE. Good luck.
Well took it to the dealership and they cut it for free but only one side of the key will work. I can't tell if its the side the dealership cut or the side ACE cut that's not working. Do anyone have an ignition diagram?
i wondering about just stashing a transpoder chip(chip only) under the steering column and using only 0.80c generic blanks...
My FOB
came in!!! I'v been waiting to do this, in less than 5 mins i had remotes switched, took it to Home Depot and got them to cut a key, charge was $1.98 what ever cost it took to cut any other key I didn't care. I wanted to use the key right away but the transponder hadn't been exchange so i held my original key next to Ignition and turned the new copy, BOOM.. Worked!
5mins later had it out of the Valet key and in the new..
I added the NISMO sticker bc it was collecting dust and thought it was to small for the car.. lol

just adding my two cents.....i bought the car used and only had the single valet key, i wanted multiple remotes and didn't really like the idea of going to the dealership to get raped so i installed the transponder on the dash near the ignition where you cant really see it. no all my additional keys work great! =)
So this one seems like a good deal http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=290510419224
It's a shame i don't have the valet key, only the two normal keys, i'd rather not cut up my only spare key, but then if this works fine, i'll still have the two keys i had before.

I broke my keyfob so I ordered different style and I really like it. it's little bit smaller than my first one. They are around $40 from ebay and it comes with transponder chip. There is no DIY for program a new key but you can use old one from your old key and use it otherwise you have to take it to Nissan or locksmith to program a new key, they will charge you $80 from nissan and $65 from locksmith and dont worry about the keyfob. its real easy to program, you can do it yourself. it will take about 20 seconds.
