Default Why is the aussie Z less power

Anyone know why the aussie Z is 12 kw less power than the US, is it our emission laws etc.
Secondly, if so how is this done and does that mean our cars our detuned? and thus is there more power to unleash?

From my discusions with the nsw zone manager i ts a more restrictive exhaust (our noise limits are lower than the us)
We have the same as the japanese market.
I belive the us 350z is 214kw and aust z is 206

I hadn't noticed the power difference. The exhaust makes sense. Could explain why the Japanese exhausts claim improved power yet they're not seeing the results in the US because their exhausts are already free flowing.
