Default Diff noise/fuel pump noise at 240km??????????? What the heck is that noise?

First of all, I never take it over 3500rpm at all.... change gears with clutch fully depressed all the time and the car has only 240km on the clock!

While I was enjoying driving my car today (3rd day), I noticed there is a noise from the rear chassis even when the car isn't in gear! It sounds like.... "zeeee... seeee...." and goes constantly... I tried to restart the car, but didn't go away! I only noticed it today because I had my stereo on all the time for the past 2 days while I was driving and didn't pay attention to what's going on in the car really... just concentrating driving on the street to avoid any possible accident!

What kind of noise is that? Fuel Pump noise??? is it normal? please help!

cheers,

richie

Is there noise there when you're not moving? If it is then it can't be the diff. Fuel pump is possible. If the pump is making an alternating noise instead of a constant one the pump is likely faulty. IMO however you should not be able to hear the pump at all.

My advice is to take in in and let them look at it but you've probably already thought of that.

Thanks apsilon! I think it is more likely to be the fuel pump because the car doesn't need to move to produce the noise! And it is a constant noise! I will give Nissan dealer a call in the morning, then most probably bring the car in in the afternoon to have it checked out! I cannot believe this is happening on the 3rd day!!! Or most probably it is a normal sound?! I will let you guys know about it later!

cheers,

richie

Here's a message from some board (not a 350Z board), but it does relate to fuel pump noise:

"My fuel pump noise (both the old one and the new one I installed) turned out to be caused by a faulty pressure regulator up at the injector rail NOT by a bad pump. Parts counter man insisted that from my description of the problem I had a bad pump in the tank. He was wrong.
Bad regulator was not letting excess pressure bleed off back into the fuel tank causing external pump have to work too hard.
The electric pump delivers about 10 times as much gas to the injectors as they need. Excess is routed back to the tank. Could have been either a clogged return to tank line or faulty regulator. In my case it was the regulator."

dealer told me that kind of noise is kinda normal because we have quite a large fuel pump! So you guys don't need to panic as well if you hear that... they might need to adjust a lot of things when we go for the 1st 1000km service!

cheers,

When I first looked at your post I took it as
"Diff noise/fuel pump noise at 240km/h"
not
"Diff noise/fuel pump noise at 240km"

My first reaction was well at 240km/h you might expect some noise. Then I read "I never take it over 3500rpm at all". For a second I think DAM this car is fast.

Then my brain activated.

I don't buy that it's "normal". I've worked with very large fuel pumps that when setup and mounted correctly are effectively silent. It may be "normal" for the 350Z however.

they told me that they will be adjusting a lot of things at the 1st service, so that might be also the part that they will be looking at! Well... it will be all under warranty anyway! ^^

cheers,
