Default Paint Protection

My new Z is due for delivery early next week and the Nissan agent asked if I was interested in getting "paint protection", particularly as it is a black car. Apparently it prevents the paint from fading which is not really an issue for me as the car is garaged at home and at work, but I have noticed comments about protection against stone chips in some of the threads.

Has anyone gone down this road and with what sort of results?

Thanks
coatsie

Please don't get paint protection. It's a total waste of money. There's been numerous threads in the Oz section on this so I won't repeat the details again but you're really better off using quaility car care products regularly.

Dont go out and buy a new sponge to wash your Zed. It will put swirl marks all over your BRAND NEW $66K CAR!!! Make sure you only get those soft hand mittens and be very careful with whatever you do to the paint.

Thanks fellas.

You've really confirmed my concerns - just another "sales" add-on. Will probably opt to dispense with the number plate bracket, fill in the badge and have the front bumper resprayed with a top quality paint.

I acknowledge that black paint is difficult (presently drive a black MR2 Turbo) and needs plenty of TLC. I would have preferred a white car but Nissan's white, which I believe may have been discontinued, wasn't "white" enough if you know what I mean so I went to the opposite end of the scale again!

Thanks for input.

cheers

The Zed's paint is different from other cars, its paint is ultra sensitive, and as your getting black I would be double careful as your were with your MR2. Its not normal paint.

You've been warned.

I think the paint is fine, albeit sprayed on a bit sparingly.

It's the clear coat that is so minimal that if you ever need to cut back you're into the paint already. Remarkably poor quality imho.

Comparing the paint to the Kluger I got the wife and you marvel at the amount of paint Toyota put on that thing. It looks thick! And the clear took a beating when I took it to Barrington Tops a few weeks ago.

Yes good point Zuff, it is actually marks on the clear coat that create swirl marks, so the clear coat is very soft, and yes the paint also put on too thin, hence all the little chips and some scratches.

"Paint protection" is a lot of crap! The clear coat is the paint protection.

I've got a 5-year old Ford Exploder (pun intended) that has never been polished, is washed yearly and is so shiny it 'aint funny!

Get some Zaino and do it yourself if you want a better shine!

I can't recommend Zaino enough.... I'm sure the Zainobros guys were inspired by God himself!

I've always used Maguires products (son and I do full restos on Cooper "S" to concourse condition) and find these excellent, but am happy to try Zaino if it's that good.

Must say, I've had many Toyotas in the past and found quality to be excellent given their price but I'm getting nervous about Nissan quality"!!!

cheers

Default ZAINO

ZUFFY - where do you get your Zaino?

There's two sites I have for aus - but it's all a bit bewildering to me - don't know what to get and the pricing is different.

Aurora-one
Eclipse Detailing.

I got my first lot from Aurora-one, they don't seem to have as much stock and delivery was a bit slower than Eclipse. However, eclipse seem to charge more for postage & handling.

Get the Zaino Total Protection Show Car Kit for dark colour cars
Code: ZKIT_1
Price: $ 225.50

Leave a free day (preferably when wife is not home LOL and you'll be very happy with the outcome. One's the initial day's work is done it's a pretty easy polish routine from there. Takes me about 45mins to apply a coat and 15 mins to buff it all off.

I posted an email in the last thread.

The guy is in Singarpore. Even after shipping he's cheaper than both of those by a mile.

Try zymga@singnet.com.sg and get a price!
