Default Better Sways: Evo or Stillen - Other??

Hey guys, who makes the best sways for A/X? I'll be running sways in the front and back and was wondering if anyone has input on this?

I think a bunch of track guys run the Evo's, but I can't find any real info on them - like stiffness over stock, or weight.

Thanks

I'm looking for a larger bar now, I think from talking with Jim/Carter we'll probably do the hotchkis (sp?) 35mm hollow bar, the 350evo bar from what I understand is a 32mm solid, and the 35 hollow ends up being a bit stiffer. I believe I need a stiffer bar as well as will probably revalve my front shocks in the next month or two as well.

What are you using now?

Sorry about that, I'm using the 350Evo bar, which IMO is a good improvement over the stock bar, but I need more.

What do you think about the evo's? I'm running BSP so I'm looking for a front and rear setup - do you know of anyone who has tried both front and rears- results??

I've got most of the push dialed out of the car thru alignment/pressures, but I'm still looking to stick a little better in the tight corners. Thoughts?

Rear sway bars are a totally different game than I'm playing with, so I'm not the best person to ask about them

I like the Evo front bar so far, but as I said, feel I need more up there. Don't know the physics enough to know what the rear will do to the car. What else have you done to it?

Personally, I haven't done anything to it but alignment/tires. I bought it in Jan of this yr with an intake and exhaust. I'm really just looking for the best sways to smooth out the transitions and keep the fronts moving in the right direction.

Have any idea what the stiffness is on your evo's?

What if you replaced the intake and went back to B-Stock?

No clue on the stiffness, if Jim or Carter see this they'll have more bar data than I have.

Heh - Yeah, I was going to do that until I saw how much cheaper the 17" tires/wheels are. I have the Track model, and I love the Ray's, but I can get cheaper/lighter rubber setup if I drop down a size.

In the Rocky Mountain region BSP isn't much faster than BS, so I'm still competitive. I'm not thinking nationally... at least not for BSP

Thanks for the input.

Christoc, I've owned both the hotchkis and the evos. The evos are definately stiffer up front than the hotchkis. I know the published numbers say otherwise but this is what I have found having owned both.

I talked to Evo today and they said their front bar is ~1500 ft-lbs/in at the max setting. Stock is ~1100 ft-lbs/in. That's about 30% stiffer than stock at the max setting.

Evo also said the middle setting is equivalent to stock and the lowest setting is softer than stock - for the front.

Hotchkis claims +9% over stock at the lowest setting, up to +63% at the highest - so that's roughly 1200-1800 ft-lbs/in.

I haven't tried either, but that seems like a rather large difference between the stiffest settings for the Evo and Hotchkis. Definately noticable.

BTW - the Cuscos claim to be substantially stiffer than either of these.

Thought: Evo has poly bushings, Hotch has rubber. Maybe that's the difference in feel???

I'm pretty sure Hotch is poly, too.

I don't know how these things are measured, but I guess the stiffness refers to the setting based on some sort of theoretical or calculated value, not by actual experimentation. It's probably not taking into consideration the elasticity or deformability of the hardware, just the ratios. (No, I haven't and physics in awhile, and I barely paid attention anyway.) This is just pure speculation on my part.

I think the EVO is a stronger bar because of the size and other posters' subjective tests.

The Hotchkis does come w. poly bushings. I wouldn't read into their claimed bar rates, however. That is not to say they are more or less than the competition in reality. I simply don't know them ... unless I can find sometime to measure them.

The Hotchis' lack of retaining collars is a big minus for me, however. Without the collars, the bars will eventually work it self to one side ... decreasing mechanical efficiency, cause damage to end-link joints, and in some cases come in contact w. the shocks.

The rear is a quick fix by using a clamp on collar that is easily found at a hardware store. No so easily for the front however, because it twists in a funny way, causing the clamp on collar to not face the right angle. I'll find some time to make me a set of custom front collars that seats correctly.

We can do a 4th hole on the front bar.
We have one made for our GA cars.
Cheers

Dave,

Did you ever run the hotchkis on full stiff front and back? How did that feel for you? I have my on stiff/stiff now, and it feels pretty much the same as med/med, except I actually think I might have a bit less traction. I don't lose traction on public roads because I drive pretty conservative, but I from time to time, I try to make the stop light, and both the front and rear end actually skip a bit at corner exit. I won't know for sure until I drive the car harder at the next event. Having the collars do make me a bit nervous as I worry that they'll bind, and mess up the OEM brackets. If I had to do this all over, I would have considered the 350EVO ones, and just pay the extra $100 - $150. Those collars come out to nearly $40, so the savings aren't really that great.
