Default BMW H-Stock racer vs. Project 350Z...

Mods, tow, lock or delete this thread if any of this is against forum policies or inappropriate, because it's a FreshAlloy event...

I'm not going to lie to you all, I'm the driver/owner of the 350Z in this article.

http://www.freshalloy.com/site/featu...st/default.asp

I think it's going to be tremendous fun. Both cars are relatively equally equipped on paper right now, except for the brakes I think I have slight edge in all categories. We're not comparing drivers, but cars...Can Japanese horses out run German horses? We shall see.

Hack,
Scotts car is actually my old T2 car. My new T2 350Z is signifigantly faster than the M3. If you want to beat him, contact me....

What track will you be at? If you'll be up north, I'd be happy to join in on the fun too, as I'll be at Infineon with NASA that weekend.
Heck in the name of science you can even use my car.

Alex! I don't know if you remember me, but I went up to Laguna Seca to meet with you with Scott right before he bought the car. I'm the slightly "trimmer" of the two friends Scott brought with him.

Glad to see you're enjoying your 350z. It would be fun to do another shoot-out with your "new" car and your "old" car.

Daveh, we'll be in Buttonwillow for the shoot-out, let me know if you would like to be in on the action for the next shoot out as well.

Hack, didnt know you were going to go Japanese, thought you were sticking with German!

If you're real serious about beating Scott's car, you will need to turn your car into a T2 car....

I am sticking with German. Got a Z4, E46 323Ci, and an E30 318is that I'm going to slowly turn into a REAL race car for BMWCCA CR in the garage besides the 350Z.

Kinda fell into the 350Z by luck, FreshAlloy was looking for someone to help them build out a "project car," I was in the right place at the right time and voila! Here I am trying to pit a street car against a well prepared race car.

Hack,
I still have a 325 but miss the M3, oh well, sometime in the next couple of years I promised myself a M3 Lightweight, I still have an original M3GTR body that I bought from PTG and I am just itching to install in on a car....

Unless you are willing to race prep the 350Z, you wont win. If you want to race prep it I can walk you through everything you need to do....

You can blueprint the motor, reprogram ECU, replace exhaust from cat back and can use the parts out of the 300hp motor (ie: cams etc). But HP is not where you get most of the time out of the car. Most of the time comes from the Suspension, Rollcage (ie chassis stiffness) and race tires.

Power is not the issue with this car. Brakes and weight is the biggest issue in terms of it's competitiveness.

Alex, I would like to get some pointers. Right now I'm thinking of stripping all the interior panels and go bare bone, take out all the plastic interior liners in the trunk, all the sound deadening...etc. The only problem? It's still a STREET CAR and I need it to stay a street car for the best value for our reading members, most of who don't race. So I can only take out what I can put back in (eventually when the project is done, I may return it to bone stock and sell it/trade it for an E90 M3) and start on a Skyline GTR project if Nissan brings that bad boy over.

Yeah I know the bread and butter of the Z is the handling. Just wondering what you guys are allowed to do to keep up with the turbo cars. I know that TC Kline did some work with Nissan Motorsports on a T2 engine.
I struggle to keep up with the hight HP cars in my TT class.
I also have some things that wouldn't be allowed in T2 (front control arms, BBK, lsd, and wider tires) that would help HACK's car.
What is your budget on the car?

Don't forget the diff...

If you got a track model, then the OEM Brembos are more than sufficient. If you have the smaller brakes, then yes, it's a serious problem. I will agree that the Z's weight is a big disadvantage though.

Ooh. Now that's intriguing. A 3.91 coupled with NISMO LSD gut. I'll need something like the TechnoSQUARE ECU re-mapping to give me some more RPMs to fully take advantage of that.

I have the Enthusiast model.

For this round, it's what I can get from my sponsors. Next round we may have some cash to spend, depending on the amount of exposure I can generate for this round.

Alex, if I can set up a shoot out between your new T2 car vs your old T2 car, would you be interested in travelling down to Nor Cal for a future event?

Hack, its a possiblity but it would need to be arranged at a time there is a race down there...

Taking weight out of the car will help but you still need the suspension/wheels & tires, chassis stiffness (ie: rollcage), brakes (if you dont already have the Brembo's), differential, and for the engine, a minimum of exhuast and ECU.

Suspension: I've already got the NISMO S-Tune suspension and anti-roll bars installed.

Wheel and tires: 245mm f and 275mm r Bridgestone S-03s, I got Scott Cary to conceed R-comps and run street tires for the shoot out.

Chassis: He's got it there. Can't get cage welded/bolted on in time.

Brakes: Still working my angle, only vendor that hasn't given me a solid "no" is AP Racing.

Engine: Intake, exhaust, header so far from AEM and DC Sports. Working TechnoSquare for the ECU upgrade, hopefully will get them done in the next two weeks.

The suspension wont be stiff enough and neither will the chassis without the rollcage. You either need to match him modification for modification or totally our horsepower him by a huge margine (ie:350+). You also deperately need a good LSD (the OEM Nissan LSD sucks...)
