Ordered a new track goodie!
I've been in search mode for a datalogger for the Diasio the past few weeks and finally found something. The unit is available for street cars too so I thought I'd share. I've literally looked at hundreds of websites for a datalogger that wouldn't break the bank and would do everything I wanted.
The one I got is called the Veypor 2. Its a combined datalogger and HUD. The datalogger is pretty basic, but it has built in accelerometers and an IR lap timer (extra) and logs any of the parameters you wish. It does have some advanced features as well, one I found very interesting was, it will calculate your cooefficient of drag. So if you make changes to your aero setup, it will give you some feedback as to whether you improved things or made them worse. The first thing I'm going to try this on is the GT3 wing on my Z. I went for a terminal velocity run last weekend and ran up against the wall at 145. That was it. I ran it at that speed for about a mile and a half and it just wouldn't go faster. That wing reduced my top speed about about 8mph!!
But the real cool part about this logger is that you can hook up a helmet mounted display and beam some of the data right into your occular cavity!! I am a total gadget freak so this thing is right up my alley. It will show speed, gear indicator, lap time, RPM, and it also has one user programmable alarm light, which I will use as a shift light. It also comes with software to analyze the data, but not much is shown about that. So, I'll just have to wait and see. The Veypor 2 is $318, which I thought was a friggen steal for its capabilities and the HUD is $200.
You can check them out here. www.veypor.com. I'll post a review once it comes in and of course the snow stops flying!!
There were two other loggers in the running and I'll post those in case anyone is interested. The Traqmate is an excellent value for the price and the DL1/DL2 which is a great setup as long as you don't want to use OBDII for your hook up.
