Sports Compact Car
This magazine has an excellent right on the 350z. It is the June issue. It compares two 350Zs, NA and S/C on the Willow Springs Track. Did not know where to place this but I guess here is a start. I am going to change my 20's after reading this.
no it's not!!! It sucked! It talks about the myth of tuning etc and the runs a track car against a car with probably 500 or 600 pounds of audio / video equipment in it.
If you ran that race with all of the dynamat / subs / boxes / tv's out of the orange car and just had the performance mods, the veilside car would win
That article told me one thing and one thing only! Weight is your enemy!

SCC looks like it might be turning around now that they have a Editor In Chief that's going to stick around for a little while.
I read that article as well. I wonder if the same driver drove both cars. Mike Cronin is a pro driver and could drive a tractor around the track faster than most of us could drive our Z's
I'm glad to see the results since my car is identical to the white one. The only difference is that mine laps that track a little slower due to the driver.

I enjoyed the article. If the Vortech car didn't have the audio equipment it would have been closer but I think the n/a car would have still won. 11 seconds is a lot of ground to make up.

I think if the tires were smaller and boost was higher vortech would of won. However I did read someone on the forum that suspension is what wins races. I guess it not how fast you can go but how good your car handles.
I like that they tested the cars the way the did, I just wish they had a stock 350Z for a baseline and their SCC 350Z for comparison sake.
I like SCC these days, it's more go than show (compared to most other import mags).

This just goes to prove that a good driver with a properly setup car can stomp a dyno, show car or trailer queen even with less hp. That's not really surprising. But I was surprised it was 11 seconds. That is FOREVER on a track.
I agree that it was not a good comparisson. The article even stated that the owner of the Veilside Z didnt want it to be driven hard so they dont ruin his body kit. What they should have done is take one Z, got lap times, added 20" rims got more lap times, added a body kit, got more lap times, and so on. Same Z, Same driver, different mods. The guys from VRT were also there that day shooting something for next months issue and reportedly, those are not accurate hp humbers or mods for Mike Cronins car.
they should have lapped a 100% stock car as well
that is part of the game too. The body kit is so huge and such a hindrance to the car that it can't be pushed because it could fly off? Too bad for the owner, but it's probably the worst performance mod EVER then

If you claim to have a fast car but won't dare to prove it for fear if breaking your mods, then your car is slow...
Plenty of formula could have been used for this test. This one, they took a typical GO car vs a typical SHOW car. Like it or not. It's there.

The only thing that belongs on a sports car are some R-Compound tires!

I think the point is you should first learn how to drive before you start moding your car. And who watches TV while they drive
This may be a bit off topic but did anyone read about the Honda Fit towards the end of the mag? I belive the Spood fit with... 80hp? lapped 3 seconds faster than the SC 350z on the same track. Look it up cause I can't remember exactly, I just remembered being surprised by the results
