Default BBK with 17 in wheels

I posted this in the Brake, Suspension, Tires & Wheels forum, but didn't get any help, so I'm hoping some one can help me here. I noticed a good many of you run 17s at the track, which I also want to do. But, I also want to get a bbk.

What bbk and wheels do you have/clear properly?

If you do a search on the brake kit you want, then you will see if 17's will fit. There was a huge thread on this a little while ago on the Road racing section.

The reason no one has answered - is because it depends. All BBK's are not the same size, so you must first select you BBK then see if the wheels fit.

I know that Rotora has a great web site that will tell you the minumum wheel size for each one. And I know that the guys from Stoptech frequent this forum and are very helpful! If it was my money I would choose between those two.

From personal experience, Stoptech's 13" front kit will work with the stock 17's and SSR comp-h 17X9.5 wheels.

13" front Stoptech with 17 x 9 +35 5zigen FN01R-C.

Most 17" wheels will clear a 13" BBK as long as they have the proper offset. If you want 14" brakes, then you will have a hard time finding a 17" that will clear.

Default 13.65" dia Wilwood Kit

It is 6 Pot front and 4 pot rear sold by 350zbrakes.com. I have had it for three years and they are great on the track.

14" Rotora Kit will work with 17" 5-Zigen FNO1R-Cs, and as others have said, the 13" StopTechs will fit some 17s as well.

I will tell you that the 14.25" APs will not clear any 17s though.

Volk Te37 will clear Ap 14.25''

volk racing te37 rims are -1 inch for BBK.
for example: If a BBK clear 18 inch, 17 inch for Te37

Wait, even with the example I am confused lol. So you are saying that Volk TE37 17s, aren't truly 17"? When I test fit my 17" 5-Zigen FNO1RC-s the calipers hit the inside of the wheels. Spoke clearance was fine, but the diamater of the wheel was too small. So common sence would tell me that any 17" wheel would not work because no matter the width, offset, or spoke clearance, the diameter wouldn't change. So either the 17" FNO1R-C isn't really 17" or the Volk TE37 isn't really 17".

If the 17" Volks clear, then I will be stoked and order a set ASAP!

17" Volks are still 17" lol, but "Barrels" or hoops do vary. The so called "drop center" to alow tires to be mounted can be shollower than on other wheels, and the forged construction may allow for more room inside (read: thinner wheel material) accounting for, oh say, a few millimeters x 2...bla bla.
You get the picture!

LOL, yeah. Overthinking owns me.

I hate when the answers are obvious.

I tried 3 different offsets of the 17" 5-Zigen FNO1R-Cs and none of them would clear the 355mm Rotora brakes!! They will clear the 325mm although.

I agree, 17" FN01R-C's won't clear 14" Rotora. I bought them used from Knightwhite99 because he couldn't use them when he upgraded from the 13" Stoptechs to 14" Rotoras.

So, to reiterate...17 in te37(and i'll assume le37) will clear 14.25 ap kits and 14 in stoptech kits?

I am not sure about LE.
But my 18 inch Te37 with 22+ offset fit 355mm Brembo BBK. As you can see there's still a big gap. Mike from optionimports.com told me dat 17inch should also fit 355mm Brembo BBK

^ There's a big gap from the wheel to the rotor, but IMHO it doesn't look like there is enough space left around the calipers in that a 17 in wheel would fit

Now this is something I want to see. Is or has anyone run this setup before? I have AP 14.25" with 18" TE37 and even that is a pretty tight fit... now if the 17" TE37 is confirmed then..... hehe

Justin, you better get back soon and get your mods on so we can get on the track!

Here is a clearer picture. You can't tell but there is a bit more space in the barrel but not that much more. At the closest point of the caliper to inner wheel is less than a pinky finger.

Hard call, 17" may fit but not by alot, if any.

If anyones interested I have a set of 17x9 +20 Weds Sport Wheels for sale that clear most 14" bbk. Not sure about the 14.25 Brembo/AP's but if you're local you can try them out.
