Video: Nov '06 AutoX Practice at CA Speedway
Just wanted to share a video I made at my last autocross practice. This was my third time autocrossing. The video is of my final run and my personal fastest time of the day. The 4WD cars were doing 5-8 seconds faster (if I recall). So much to learn, but I think I did pretty well considering how new I am.
This was recorded on a tiny 4 MP Canon digital still camera mounted on a pocket-sized tripod that I wedged between the visor and the ceiling. The camera was upside down so I had to flip the video at edit. 320x240 @ 15 fps = much room for improvement.
Anyway...

Just Friday and with my GF at the ladies' school Saturday. I was also at the first El Toro practice and my first event was a practice with the Porsche club at Hollywood park. I can't wait to drive again (and on new tires...mine are at the treadwear warning bar). I'd love to see what a good driver can do in a heavy-*** Z.

The Porsche club is a cool group, it is nice they lets us come and play with them and they are laid back.
El Toro rocks, I ran my car on Sun at the Cal Poly practice and got to drive an M3 and Miata on Sat.
We are going to run Dec 9th in San Diego and Dec 10th at Fontana.
btw a good driver in a heavy @ss Z was 2nd place in B stock at natls this year.
Awesome! 2nd.
So I've got a bunch of questions for you since I have you on the line. What qualifies as B stock? What kind of commitment does it take to even get to the nationals? How did you get to drive the M3 and Miata? (are you also an instructor?)
BTW, my name is Mark. Nice to meet you
I probably won't make the next practice...be back in oh seven.

I just came Sat to hang out and help a buddy dial in his Corvette, a new guy that showed up with a blinged out M3 wanted someone to show him how fast it could go, I was happy to help him. I did one run in the car with him as a passenger and beat him by 20 seconds. The good part for him is he saw how much harder I pushed his car and he picked up 7 seconds on his next run. Miata was pretty much the same thing, there were a lot of newbies at the El toro event.
Dec 9th and 10th are just regular events, no practice.

Just to reiterate, you have to have the wheel that is the same stock size as the model of car you have.
So, if your Z came with 17" wheels, you can't use the 18" wheels from a different model and vice versa, unless the wheel size was a *manufacturer* option (and there was no wheel size option on the Z) or you do a complete model swap.
