know of any College Autox Clubs , please chime in!
Clemson Sports Car Club(http://www.clemsonscc.com) has been kicked off campus by parking services. Im trying to gather a list of how many colleges have sports car clubs that run autox (either on or off). Point being, the head of parking services made a comment like "if you club is so great why arnt there others like it on college campuses"
So, if you know of a college with one, please post it and maybe a link to there home page.
thanks in advance

Not sure if they are auto-x clubs, but I know JMU and VaTech both have car clubs. Many of these members run track events at VIR and compete in local autocrosses with the Blue Ridge Region SCCA.

I've never heard of schools allowing autox on campus before, anywhere. Shoot, at FSU the nearest autocross was in middle GA, not in Tallahassee as they moved it years back!

you might look into schools that do Formula SAE (students build a car for autoX type event)- those clubs would have to find a place to test, and I'd think the schools might let them do it on their property.

that seems to be the issue were dealing with. The trustees think were a liability that could put the university in a tough spot and one comment that was made during a meeting was about how many other schools had autox on campus. Seems like few to none!
We may be the only school in the country that allowed it at one point, who knows. It makes clemson unique in my opinion and were not that big of a liability issue(intramural sports has more injuries).
thanks for the input guys!

the only thing I could imagine is that you propose something to the board and discuss a liability waiver of their choice, etc, to use the school's property. Might be a tough fight but if you can bring it back, cool.

are you guys well organized? Do you have a written formal procedure for every autoX event you do? I think there are ways of making autoX events super safe and if you can show the school that you've taken the extra steps to ensure safety, they could let you stay.
I work for Boeing and when I first found out that their autoX club does all of their events on Boeing's property I was a bit surprised...I would have thought a big coporation wouldn't bother with that kind of risk - but they do! (Boeing's club limits who can attend to memebers of the club and to member's invitee's [the member who invites someone is responsible for the guest and all of their actions] - they also allow Boeing employees to come up to 2 events, afterwhich they have to join). Everyone who comes also signs a waiver form.
Ask the school what kind of liability are they thinking of - is it someone getting hurt, or property damage? AutoX is one of the safest sports out there.
hope that helps with some ideas to make it 'safer' and hopefully reduce the liability.

the UF sae team used to test their cars in one of the campus parking lots, but I am pretty sure they stopped that. And I think there used to be auto-xs on campus at UCF, but that was stopped due to noise complaints I believe.
goodluck getting them to allow the auto-xs again. if not on campus maybe you guys can find a large parking lot close by that will allow it.

FSAE FTW!
USB FSAE... R.I.P. Every school w/ an engineering department should have a FSAE team. I think I learned more about practical engineering in that then I did in any of the classes I attended and I had a blast too. FSAE and Mini-baja were some of the best experiences I had while in school.
Boeing's auto-X club (BEAC) has a long standing relationship w/ the Boeing company. They've been allowed to run on Boeing property for 34 years. It has been 'grandfathered' in to being acceptable by the company. To start something like what we have in BEAC today might be a bit of a stretch in this 'liability concious' world we live in today.

FSAE FTW! definately agree with drivesolo... i learned more in the year and a half doing FSAE then i did in any of my undergrad and masters classes. unfortunately being team captain took more time then i should have allowed, and i burned myself out of grad school.

i believe either IU or Ohio HAD held SCCA autocrosses on their premises until recently. Ill check on that to be sure though...
I go to Purdue, and our car club (Purdue Automotive Performance Association) has been trying to get Purdue to let us autox at the stadium parking lot for years but no luck. There is a large autox following in the club, and we usually hit the Rantoul, Indy, Grissom etc area events.
