Yeah you said it - PITA to work on:

hmm.. do you think these speed flaps toyota added fixed this stability at high speed?

(see photos)

In 1998 and 1999, All MR2's only in Japan were complimented with these Speed Flaps. The idea of the speed flaps, is to divert the wind/air around the front wheels to stabalize the MR2 at higher speeds. These are installed on the front bumper, right in front of your front wheels.

I thought they called that the Elise.

Also, the Exige has a supercharger (not turbo).

Indeed - yeah and I made the mistake of not pulling the engine to do it. I've done it twice now and care not to do it again.

I question your dad's driving skills if he can't tell that an Exige is way more nimble than a Z. It's a night and day difference.

Steve loved the MR2, it's unfortunate that he can't chime in here. He's on www.myfjcruiser.com if you would like to ask him something.

Dude I had a ACT 6puck in there. I used to cut a 1.7 60ft on the stock 15" wheels and soon after I blew the tranny. I messed up first 3rd and 4th somehow. I replaced it and sold it.

It was honestly a very well balanced car but just very difficult to work on.

Until this year, the Exige was only available with the same normally aspirated motor as the Elise. This year, the Exige was replaced with the Exige S, which has a supercharged version of the same powerplant.

Agreed with the general feel on this thread -- even the Exige S isn't much of a leap over the 350Z in power (although it makes its power in a different way), but it weighs more than a third less than the 350Z, and drives like a go-kart in comparison.

it also fits like one, i feel like i need a surgery each time i get in and out of it. My friend recently cracked his bumper on I-15, they want $2500 to replace the bumper piece.

On the track the Z will win pretty easily, but on the Autox the MR2 should win. You have to figure that the MR2 is lighter, and has a true midship layout, with already great suspension. It's a blast to driver but if you push it too hard and have really upped the power, the thing will spin like no other car. The MR2 is definitely fun, just not easy to live with from day to day.
