I'm very tempted to just get the hood vents someone mentioned earlier, located here, since the racing season, at least here in snowy Colorado, is coming to a close, and I would like to work on lowering the underhood temps on my G before the season is over.

I'd love to see the real-world difference in cooling they make on a tracked Z. Good project.

Well, I ordered the MotorsportZ hood vents, and got them in the other day. Attached are pics of what they look like laying on my hood. However, they don't actually have vents in them, you have to cut out the vents. I tried, and I did an alright jo, but I don't think I will be installing these, I think I will wait for the ones that Chebosto is making (hopefully)

hey dave-

yea i'm about to meet up with a local guy. prices seem REALLY reasonable for FRP-

don't throw those vents away. you should mount then on the underpannel of the car to allow airflow to be sucked away from the oil pan/radiatior.
just make sure the vents are facing backward so when the air goes under the car it will suck the hot air away.

definatley interested in this. after overheating issues i've had with the car, i've done everything to help alleviate the heat. the bigger radiator is working great but any additional cooling is welcomed. let me know how things progress and if u want to measure temps before and after on my car. i should be out to the track in the next 2 months.

Thats not a bad idea, at all. Thanks, I might do that.

I'm definitely still interested in your vents for my hood.

Good news!

dropped by Benchmark Composites & saw Stan today.. Shoulda went to him earlier.. what a great guy.. I think we're good to go on the vents....
i dropped off the plugs and told him my wishes..

will be adding:
1. extra flange material to the edges for easy drop in application
2. ramped gurney flap on the leading edge to let air flow up and over the vents
3. talked about material finishes.. best bet for cheapest racers would be FRP, obviously, but for those that want it in carbon, since its so hard to get clear-gelcoated carbon on such a difficult shaped part those are going to be on a per-special order basis only and will be more expensive. sorry. the only way they'll touch if, my end cost is higher too. they said alot of places are stopping small clear coated parts due to the time it takes to get the carbon in evey nook n cranny to come out smooth. I'm making these purpose built, so i'll make em look as pretty as possible but functionality first...

I'll post projected prices soon. the final quote won't be finished until i get the plug shaped up and the mold process building.

yay.

Cool! You'll be happy with his work. Just don't ride on a golf cart through the pits with him driving.
