SM2 is for NA with out FI, EM is for modification that falls outside the rules of those classes.

Here is what I found:

That being said; there is a stipulation of Street Modified Catagory section wich in a nut shell states that if there is a stipulation that applies to a specific catagory your trying to pick and it doesnt inhibit an SM allowance then it stands.

Well the catch 22 is in the Street Prepared Catagory section 15.10.C.4 states FI cannot be added. Since there is not a stipulation in the Street Modified rules reguarding the use of FI the ban on FI for non factory FI stands with this catagory.

This leads us to the Modiefied class. The first outline right away is engine classifications. For FI the displacement is considered to be 1.4 times the calculated displacement... so a Z that runs FI is calculated at 4.88L or roughly 5.0. So thats used for all the weights and other allowences for the car. Thats the simple part. There is a **** LOAD of saftey features thats manditory (or at least highly recomended) for those who run modified. There are specific stipulations for RWD vehicles running in D and E class if on DOT tires so thats a relief from some of the rules crap.

So here's the run down. Stock Z's run BS. Modified N/A Z's are SPB. Then you have the FI guys who's defined class comes in at EM. Clear as mud? If I missed somthing let me know Im trying to understand this stuff and its my first look at the rules.

My question to you bboy is what do you have done to the car that puts you in EM? Yours falls under the stipulation of already having FI in section 15.10.C. I'll keep my nose in the book and see what it realy entails.... well between traveling and school work that is.

SM2.

I have an old rule book from 2006 and 16.1, section D says....

"Drivetrain and related components(induction, ignition, fuel systems, etc.)are unrestricted except the following limitations:"

I didn't read any restrictions on FI in the rest of the section.

I'm not FI but I have run in SM2 all year and this (SM2) is where the FI Z's live.

16.1.A. All stock, Street touring, and Street Prepared modications are authorized. Except as noted by these rules and refrenced rules, vehicle must be as originaly delivered.... In the apendix it hasnt been specificly addressed

The way the rule book reads it tells you what you can do, not what you cant. It does go on to specify that you can you can use engines from different years and joint manufacuteres. So if you had a 300Z with a VG30 in it you can change it to a VG30TT since that was a production engine.

EDIT: Wait I just found it... 16.1.D.1

Engine block mst be a production unit manufactured and badged the same as the original standard or optional engine for that model . EG. the VG30 swap with a VG30DETT. For us it to stayin SM2 we can swap our VQ35de for a VQ37HR and thats about it. Every thing that is not specificaly mentioned as a modification that is authorized for fore mentioned catagories is not a legal mod. If you look down into the EM it mentions FI specificly. Reference from 16.3 dont read into things. Until a bulliten is posted to specificly address the issue of aftermarket FI, its not authorized.

EDIT EDIT: Hey man they got free coppies of the 2007 book on the SCCA sight if you want an updated one. Plus they post the bullitens there to.

You're misinterpreting the rules: superchargers are indeed legal in SM2, and in fact the car that won the Street Mod national championships last year had an aftermarket supercharger on a car that was originally normally aspirated (BMW M3).

16.1D (Street Modified Category / Allowed Modifications) reads as follows:
D. Drivetrain and related components (induction, ignition, fuel systems, etc.) are unrestricted except for the following limitations:
1. Engine block must be a production unit manufactured and badged the same as the original standard or optional engine for that model.
In addition, Appendix A (Automobile Classes) specifically mentions forced induction:
2. Turbocharged or supercharged versions of the above engine will be classified on a basis of adding 1.4 liters to the actual piston displacement.
So your supercharger at least is legal in SM2. No idea what the other things in your mod list are -- you might want to check them for legality as well, but SM2 has a pretty liberal rule set, so you're probably good.

FI is legal in SM and SM2 and I've built FI cars for customers that have competed at the Nationals in SM and SM2. Look in Appendix A about page 170 of the Solo2 rule book and you'll see the displacement, induction, weight categorization of the SM and SM2 category.

Thanks for all your comments....I'm just gonna register for SM2.

this is what i found under the SM2 class

17.10
C. Induction System - Turbocharged/Supercharged Engines
1. Turbocharging and Supercharging is prohibited except for
specific vehicles as listed in Appendix A.

I don't really understand that statement. Does this mean as long as the car is listed in Appendix A it is ok, or does it mean that it has to be specifically listed with a s/c... so confusing.

The 350z is listen in Appendix A under BS.

The supercharger is legal for SM2. The reigning SM national champion had an aftermarket supercharger on his car. Rule semantics aside, I don't know how to come up with more definitive proof than this.

As for your rulebook comments, Section 17 is the Prepared section, not the Street Modified one. And Appendix A covers all classes from Stock to Modified -- you have to read the relevant class' section.

Well that kinda sums it up right there. If your the champion I know your gonna have your **** gone over with a fine tooth comb. So the decision has already been made.

Well a few posts ago you were sure FI was not allowed in SM2 .... So what have you done that puts you in EM? There is not much that is off limits in SM2. The only thing I can think of on the TT setup is if you removed more than 1lb of metal to trim out for a intercooler.

Aftermarket Cams and modified wastegates are what I've seen so far. I know they will throw me in that catagory If I ran here on island. Hell an Evo with a boost controler gets put in EM and thats the only thing he has modified.

EDIT: Technicaly I have WAY more than that since my front bumper brace and brackets were removed for the intercooler.

Cams and gate are OK in SM/SM2. The bumper is the thing gets most people, like yourself. If you could find a way to modify your stock brackets and brace to work, you can even do some trimming on them per 16.1.p, then you could run SM2. Other option is find a cooler that will work with the stock parts.

With the exception of the Lee's I know most of the group on the Islands does not get out much, so it is not a surprise they do not know the rules.

btw the Evo with boost control is a BSP car per 15.10.4.f

Sounds like you need to show them the current rule book, they seem to be working on an outdated copy.

removal of interior pieces or other weight reductions will also move you from SM2 to EM.

and yes, Superchargers and Turbos on stock, or slightly modfied engines are legal in SM2.

I'm betting that Tom Berry's BSP Evo has a better scratch time then any of the SM or SM2 competitors at the Nationals - even on dry pavement. If it rains, fuggetaboutit.

I don't have the 06 results handy, but I am pretty sure that Andy Mckee and Erik Strelnieks times will be VERY hard to beat.
