Sucks to hear that, Brett. Best of luck, and I hope everything works out before the weekend!

I dropped it off at another dealer that agreed to do the work. Noise wasnt as bad as before, and I dont hear any gear noises, just sounds like a bearing.

Another thing it does is the rear end wanders very badly over bumps, feels like it's going to spin!

At least I caught now instead of on the way to the track.

I've lost a couple pinion bearings on race cars. One failed because of a too long halfshaft on the driver's side that put a big side load on the ring gear and pinion shaft. The other failed from heat. Plumbing a diff cooler and making sure the return line from the cooler emptied onto the pinion shaft solved that problem.

Did the gears get fried when the bearing failed?

In the first example the gears got fried because of the side load. In the second example the gears were blue'd but were fine. I did send the gears out and get them REM treated which helps reduce heat generation.

I just got the call that the entire rear end needs to be rebuilt with the exception of the LSD.

I'm trying to find some 3.9 gears now so I least get something out this. It is going to be EXPENSIVE!!!

UPDATE!

I found the Central 20 3.9 gears from www.everything350z.com, they seemed to be the only ones I could find in stock. They are being overnighted to my dealer and they should have it back together tomorrow!

I should be good with a new rear-end and better gearing, defeinelty the most I've spent on my car at once! I knew I was due to drop some money on it eventually, it's been good to me.

So, for those who might have this issue I had a pinion bearing fail which knocks everything out of alignment and chewed up the gears. The dealer is replacing everything except the housing and my Cusco LSD. If I had a stock diff it would of been under warranty, but I am paying for it all and upgrading my gearing. I should be good for this weekend!

It's amazing how fast they work for non-warranty work!
