Default Magnetic Number kits

Did a search, but didn't turn anything up.

My question, to those with ample autocross experience, is where did you buy your magnetic numbers for your car? Are you even running magnets, i.e. static cling, etc?

I'd like to make sure I get a quality product when I buy my set.

Thanks!

You can google some places but they generally cost about 50-100 bucks. I went to a local sign shop and they made me a set for 12 bucks. You can also pick up the stuff from Office Depot or Staples.

Yeah, I was googling first and found them in that price range, but my main concern was the quality of the magnets and vinyl/other material used.

I might try and just go to a local shop so I can feel them in person.

I bought a sheet (2'x3') of white magnetic material and made a set on my own. You can find templates for the numbers and the class letters at this site:

My brother had two solid sheets made by a local sign shop. They were good quality and convenient, but he did run into problems once we started competing at more venues, and he couldn't use the same number. Most venues allow you to chose a couple numbers in pre-reg and let you know what you can use before the race. (Some sooner than others)

When I finally get some custom numbers, I will have mine done as individual pieces so that I can rearrange them if someone else gets my # at another venue.

I did the same since our club buys the 2' wide material by the box. As for templates, open Word, pick a font you like and print the numbers out, one per sheet. Set the class letters a bit more than 1/2 a page so you get at least the minimum size according to SCCA Solo rules.

Trim, transfer the outline to the magnetic material and cut with scissors. For the holes in 0, 4, 6, 8 and 9 I find using a permanent marker to blacken it works pretty nice and the numbers resist wear and tear a bit better.

I put them in a manila folder and they fit in the pocket behind the passenger seat quite nicely.

I had numbers made at a local sign shop. About $100/2. I can run 141 or 14 or 41. Just cover one of the “1s” with blue tape.

Thanks for all the replys.

If I don't get a cheap quote back from this local shop I'm going to make my own. That seems to be the most economical route. They'll be individual numbers, so I can rearrange in the unfortunate instance that someone "steals" my number.

Got mine done at www.firestormgraphix.com. for about 35 bucks plus shipping. Great quality imo, but first track day is tomorrow. I'll let you know if they fly off or something.

depending on how you would like your number to look like, you can always do something like i did.

Since i run with 2 different autoX clubs i can change the number in any variation i want. It only cost $11.32 and about 1 hour worth of work. To cut the ends off and put some darket tape color on it.
I ended up using magnetic business card holders that i purchased at staples.
I tested them out on autoX and track events up to 140mph.... and they still held up.

It's great that you have a street tire class to run in.

Do they put a "T" on the end of all the classes for those who run street tires? Is there a BSP-T? Do they have a generic street-tire pax adjustment?

I hope to someday persuade my club and/or the SCCA to have street-tire classes for all competitors to run in if they wish.

More to the point...I'm jealous.
