Broken Front Sway Bar - Need Input
Hey guys,
So last weekend at the local autocross, my front swaybar endlink bolt sheared off, making the car quite undriveable. Much more loose and sloppy around corners, carrying the inside rear wheel almost a foot off the ground (so says the spotters) and just wheelspin galore.
I have since installed the adjustable endlinks from Z1 (thanks Adam!). Now, when driving on the street, I am noticing that the car is still pretty loose, moreso than I remember it before. I have not tried the race tires yet, but that is an option.
So I'm wondering if one of the following is happening:
1. The poor feeling car is fresh in my head so I'm looking for it, and the car is really fine
2. The stock endlinks were binding causing the front bar to appear stiffer giving me better rear traction and now that the adjustables are in there, there is no bind so I'm really feeling the true front bar
3. Spending so much time with one wheel off the ground has damaged the viscous limited slip.
I have checked everything from pressures, alignment, all front sway bar links are tightened and no preload (did I mention these links are nice??).
Please, can anyone offer any advise for what it could be or what I could do to troubleshoot. I don't want to show up at my next autocross only to have it do the 3 wheel motion again
Thanks in advance,
JR

same thing kinda happened to me...it didnt shear off but the locking washer wasnt locked down so the bolt just backed right off. went from being right up there for FTD with my local ETR gang to finishing 11th 0_0 never driven a car that had my hands full that badly. its been fine since I fixed it. maybe tighten the adjustable endlinks?
Hate to hear that Jason. If the end links are adjustable could they be at a looser setting that what the stock endlink was? Check the earlier post about sways CT-1 where Jim Thompson gave out measurements for his bar (yours). Check them against your setup. This WAG has been brought you by Alzheimer's Alert.
Of course you know this comes from the worst setup person you're ever driven with.
Good luck.

I'm hoping that Jarred is right and it's all in my head!
At their shortest setting the endlinks are the same length as stock. When I adjusted them with the car on the ground, they sat pretty much perfectly (I could turn the adjusters by hand 1/4 turn). I will double check the measurements against Jim's thread (he actually gave me the plans for that bar, so I can check against that).
I may end up getting a different front bar that can go a bit stiffer anyway, so that may be a moot point.
Thanks for the input, please keep it coming!
