Default HPDE intercom system - brought back to life!

I'm bringing this thread back to life. Has anyone found a better intercom system then the Nady or Chatterbox systems? I'm already on my 2nd Chatterbox system and likely my 3rd before the end of April. I have not been impressed with Chatterbox. I have the Tandom Pro 2 system and it seems to last 3-4 events and then I start getting static and major feedback if the connections are wiggled. I've searched the internet and I've not found anything new that provides a student headset like you find on Chatterbox. I'd gladly pay double the price if I knew the thing would last. Replacing all of the wired parts every few events is getting old.

I read on another forum all of the HPDE intercom systems are really poor so the advice was go to eBay and buy the cheapest thing you can find. Since they all break...cut your losses.

Thanks for the help. Cheers....

Actually, there is a very easy fix to the Chatterbox issue. Ziptie or tape the cord to the microphone. What happens is when you or the student pulls the headset and mic from the helmet it breaks the wires. They are hair thin inside the casing. If you secure it, they will last 10 X longer.

If you want to really want it to last use a NASCAR or IMSA headset with them. There are adapters on the cheap. The base units are actually quite good, they just went cheap on the headsets themselves.

Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, I've been attempting to protect from that too. You would think they would design in more robust connectors and put some stronger wires in the system. It might add a whole $5 to the cost. I'm now on a quest to build the most robust and bullet proof system possible! It can't be that hard...I'll post pictures once I figure it out.

In the mean time, if anyone is aware of a better system please let me know!

The chatterbox HC50 with movable IMSA headsets. I had that set for 10 years with no issues.
