Default CMP Comp School: Thanks to Jose E. AKA ZippyZ

I wanted to thank Jose E. for loaning me his race prepped 350Z for the CMP Comp school this past weekend. Jose is a longtime customer and good friend of mine, and we've been maintaining and building his racecar over the past several years.

Since my 360Z TT was down with a bum flywheel ring gear, Jose offered to let me use his car for the school, and for that I thank him.

Not many people would let you borrow their car...let alone for competition license school sessions. Of course, I guess he new I would be good for, in case something happened.

I forgot just how fast, a nicely prepped normally aspirated 350Z can be!

Thanks Jose!!!

That was a very nice thing for Jose to do. Now, just all what is included in this "nicely preppred race car"? Others may want to duplicate it.

Car is still a little dirty from the track, but this is the best I can do under such short notice.

I ran a 1:47 with it at CMP...it honestly handles better than my Time Attack 350Z TT.

Saw this car a couple weeks back. The cage and racing seat setup is badass in this thing.

hey ZIPPY Z, no worries my username is 350zippy.

thanks for all comments and replies.
Sharif , thanks for all the car prep, maintenance ...
car is now PTB NASA and we hope to run nasa-se events ,mostly at RA and barber. so , if you all want to attend this events , please stop by next one at Road Atlanta in march 14.
you can also meet mpowers(running a PTB 350z) and laze1(running TTB),as well Sharif if we can get him there!
by the way, Sharif put some serious lap times during a short stint in the enduro race, in fact faster than I got next day during the sprint race(i was in the 1:48s)
now i need to get him to coach me as well!!
thanks
Jose

LOL..we need to get you posting more, so I can remember your screen name...how embarrassing for me.

Jose definately doesnt nee any coaching from me...he is fast as hell with that car. Looks like there is some very good competition between the 350Z's in PTB, now that the car has stock cam and no more UTEC. Not sure if Jose wants to disclose the power levels.

Hi Lloyd,

The NASA Comp school teaches you the basics of how NASA racing works, and how to avoid getting into trouble on the track. It's not designed to be a "racing" school, where they teach you how to drive faster. Instead, they basically drill us on how not to be danger to others on the track.

There are passing drills, driving off line, and driving next to and around other cars. Basically you are learning the general feeling of what it's like to be racing, which including driving off line, feeling out other cars around you, and so on. At the end, there is a quick 15 min "race". That was the most fun!

With a comp license, you can race in all NASA events, and many other groups will also allow you to race, such as PBOC. After the class, you recieve a provision license. After you complete 4 races incident free, then you receive the full license.

the SCCA Double drivers school was this past weekend at Roebling. You should have come down there with us....all i one school and your done. Run a couple events over the next two years and your approved. It wasn't completely uneventful and I ended up blowing the motor on the car but finished with a "loaner SM". Still fun.
