Has anyone done this before extensively? i did a couple track days (on a really tight karting track, so its like a 10 min autox session) and my "service engine soon" light came on. so i took it in to the dealer and they said it was the cats. I've read threads where people melted their aftermarket cats at the track, but i haven't seen anything with oem...
anybody else track their car with oem cats? any issues?
edit:
i have a cat back exhaust as far as power mods go...

I have 3 track days at Pacific Raceways on the stock cats. No issues. Probably getting a Co2 sensor off the cats. Replace that 1st and see what happens.
My track car before the Z would always throw a service light and the code was always related to the C02 sensor off the aftermarket cat.

well they're getting replaced under warranty for free, so i'm not complaining... i was just asking for when my warranty runs out. i also don't wanna go back to the dealer every month with the same thing, i don't want them to figure out i'm tracking the car...
so you had to replace the O2 sensor every track day or just clear the code?

been tracking my car for slightly over a year during the season with stock cats... no issues... and the weather gets really hot at our track days in the summer (hallett raceway, oklahoma)...
On the other car, before the Z, I would just clear the codes. Then finally some vendor came out with a sensor to fool the Cat and that fixed the CEL problem.
On the Z no problems at all even tracking last month in 97 degree weather.
Engine is stock other than JWT air intake. My mods are mostly suspension and brakes.
Maybe constantly being in 2nd gear on that short kart track is causing the problem?
The road course I don't ever shift down to 2nd unless getting off the track.

Your car cooks on small tracks because you are usually full throttle, then full on the brakes and you hardly ever carry speed long enough to let components on your car cool, especially your brakes.

I've got about 8,000 track miles on my basically stock 350Z and have not had a CEL. Cats usually fail from substrate breakdown caused by mixture issues. They get real hot trying to cope with too rich a mixture. How's the tune on your engine?

stock tune. iirc the afr's were low 13's on the dyno through the cats, so somewhere in the 12's actual afr. i figured the tune would be ok cause my only mod is an exhaust, which in theory should lower exhaust temps since it flows better...
so what i'm getting is that i should be ok with stock cats once i get new ones...

I have a 03 G35 Sedan 6 speed and have completed over 2 years autocross. I also have a little less than 10 hours of track time between Road Atlanta and LTGP. The car has 82K miles on it and no problems so far. My car also only has a cat back with a Z tube and K&N as far as motor mods goes.

Many track miles on our Z33 with cats and no issue. I run the cats for sound checks at one particular track. The CEL is only on when the test pipes are in. Ask the dealer to save your old cats and try to take a picture of the ceramic inside of them, and post it up.
