Smile #350 NASA PTA Rookie debut this weekend!!!

So after 4.5 years of track experience starting as a novice, thousands of laps, spending the last year in Time Trials, and earning my rookie competition license with NASA, the time has come for me to run with big dogs! This weekend is my first rookie race with NASA Florida at PBIR. Very excited to take the next step in motorsports when I take the green flag on a rolling start. Ill be sure to post some video and pics after this weekend. For those of you not familiar with my build, the link is in my sig.

Cheers,
Joseph

Nice job.

Are you planning to run any NASA-SE events?

I was planning on making the Dec RA event but had some things come up. Aiming to make the March 2011 Event at RA. Made that event twice before, both times 30 degrees and rain =(

Very cool!

I am currently in my 2nd year of W2W, and still learning more each lap!

You may consider starting at the back of the pack for the 1st weekend...a whole-lotta-shiate takes place when the green flag fly's....4 and 5 wide is nothing....don't trash your car or somebody else in T1

I did this for the first weekend...and i was still hyperventilating and shaking with adrenalin rushes....what a great feeling and I still get that during the start and 1st few laps.

After the start, just hold your line and just let faster cars go
Only race cars in your class,
and hold your line/be consistent!

Good Luck and look forward to being on track together soon!

Yea I think all rookies start in back here in Florida, despite qualifying time. Unfortunately, PT here in Florida is non-existent so Ill have to look at the two other clubs here that run w2w for competition. Gotta survive my first one though!

Well I had a FANTASTIC first race. Only 8 cars started, though there were 11 in qualifying. I qualifed 4th overall, but the 3rd position guy dropped out so I was inside, row 2. Got a good start, and drove for the longest 30 minutes of my life. Did well, though I was the only car in my class but held off a nice M3 BMW that qualified a second behind me. I got some video but left the camera in the trailer so Ill upload it to youtube tomorrow night.

As far as the race, it was the biggest thrill I have ever experienced. Every lap took every ounce of energy I had and the wonderful Florida heat was exhausting. Seeing that white flag come out was so relieving because not only was I getting tired, the tires were getting greasy, and the clutch was starting to overheat. Tomorrow is a 40 minute race so I am going to have last another 7 laps or so.

Prior to this race, my best time on this track was a 1:31.4 on new Hoosier R6s. Today during the race, I pulled out a 1:31.6 on Hoosiers that are about 95% worn out. The adrenaline of out running the BMW behind me just really pushed me to drive as hard as I could, though tomorrow I will have to pace myself a bit to save not only my energy but the car as well. I have no doubt that the car as it sits with new sticker Hoosiers could pull out a 1:29.XX and even lower with the aero mods it desperately needs. Stay tuned for tomorrows report.
