I'm like 3 hours or so away. If the T-hill event wasn't the same weekend thats definitely what I would do, but I'll get a lot out of watching a car that I helped build compete in Thunderdrift, so I think I'm gonna go that route.

If you're not willing to or cant afford to walk away from the track without your car that day, then I wouldn't do it.
That said, get a cheap miata and learn from there. You could probably even get a 1st gen miata for the price of your wheels lol.
Plus your car is so nice why risk an off-track and having bumpers ripped off or wheels bent etc

If it was a competiton school then yes, don't use a daily driver. But most HPDE's are VERY safe and far fewer contacts than the standard city commute.

True, and with the right instructor a lot of accidents can be avoided.
However, accidents still happen. So for somebody completely new to tracking their car I feel they should hear it.
Also I just had a friend total his car at an HPDE as well, conditions weren't the best and he hit a patch of wet grass and that was it.

i say go for it. you mentioned that you're looking for car control, imho the wet conditions will definitely give you a good feel for this.
on the other hand lines might be a little different under wet conditions (not too sure about this particular track) in the sense where the "sticky" spots (when dry) won't be your friend when it gets wet.
your t1r's should be ok under those conditions. i would be genuinely worried if i only had r-comps for the track and no decent street tire. play around with your tire pressure as you go along depending on how the car feels/reacts.
btw i love the new jp type-n bumper you're rocking... that makes 2 satin colored z's with the same front end
oh yeah, also keep your driver-ego at home as you will probably be seeing a lot of experienced drivers passing you... concentrate on what you're set out to do/learn and don't find yourself in a head-to-head battle in the wet out on your first time... have fun!!!

^ this is all true and the car is nice but I built it myself knowing that it would be tracked, and it will get thrashed eventually but I look forward to it. Its a track car first, I have an aerosync polyurethane front and Central 20 urethane sides for the track as well so I'll run those if I decide to go. I think I'm leaning towards T-hill for this weekend. I may see if I can get some drift instruction. Scott do you attend drift events there? If so do you know what I can expect as far as instructors and what Ill learn at this event?
Thanks Dave, and thank you all for the advice. You guys know your stuff and I appreciate taking the time to answer my questions honestly. Its all been very good advice.
Now I've never been super into drift but I have an open mind and I know its fun, so I'm gonna go help out at Thunderdrift, our SR20 S14 is competing so I'm gonna go see what we can do!! I'm thinking about bringing the Z and getting some instruction while I'm there.

BTW, if this car is track only, when do you plan on getting some (cheaper) 17 or 18" wheels?

Ohh... I may have to take back what I said... RTA events are pretty competetive. Even in the slower sessions the drivers are pretty quick and you will likely feel like a fish out of water, not to mention you will have to get used to hand signals while in the rain driving very close to a lot of walls at high speeds... probably not very condusive to learning.

I'm really surprised thats the first time you've seen my car Calin! In fact theres no way this is the first time you've seen it!! If I remember right, you and I were one of the first customers of Nic and was there when we all got hosed. It looked a little less aggressive back then though,
So I'm now preparing for Thunderhill! I'm getting more and more excited about it and I think I'm going to enter my car in the skidpad event on Saturday and try getting my car sidways a bit. I'm just jonesing to do ANYTHING with my car lol!!!

Basically If I break something I cant afford to fix it at the moment thats part of why I am hesitating. And if I don't go Ill be working the pit for a friend at thunderhill drift which isn't a bad compromise I suppose. I trust myself to keep it on the track but with wet conditions I'm not quite as confident, I haven't even really driven my car in the rain.
BTW - great pics of your car. They almost don't look real.

Thanks Dave. It is true the Z isn't my daily so even if I did break something its not like it can't sit for a few. I just hit a rough time financially at this moment but it will be over soon and I could always fix stuff then.
Thanks for the compliments here's my favorite since the new set up,
