Default race car hood pin recommendation

This isn't a ricer question

I need to install hood pins on my race car, and looking for something durable, and will work on a stock but kinda bent hood and front end and can withstand a few "love-taps" from racing

Plus I take my car apart all the time after track fender-benders and to do maintenance.

I have seen these around but wonder how much trouble they create when the get out of alignment???

Anybody us these successfully?

Or should I just go with Old-School hood pins??? (much cheaper)

Any club restrictions as to the type style pins you can use?

And these (4) will be the only means of holding the hood shut?

This pin is pretty cool with plenty of height adjustment. Should suit your needs.

I have had the aero catch pins on my hood for awhile and have never had any issues with them. One thing that I did notice but it never happened with me is that if you ever closed the latch it could stay shut but not click in and under load while driving it could put open being that they are spring loaded. However if you get the one with the key then it shouldn't be a problem.

Another adavantage of the old school ones is the pit marshals can easily check to see if the pins are in and locked.

I have personal experience in this now.

LOL!!!

I saw some post that indicated that you had a recent experience with "hood-to-car-connectivity"

Good news is a FFRC hood can also act a airplane wing and glide pretty darn well.

I just ordered the old school Sparco ones, 35 bucks, hard to beat. I am going to retain the factory latch though. Happened twice to me where I almost ran over a hood that flew off someones car. Silver hoods on asphalt at 100+ kind of blend in with each other lol...

I recommend that you remove the stock hood release hardware on a 100% dedicated race car. The reason is that if you have a fire, say an engine fire, after you bail out of the car and run as far away as possible, the safety crews will not be able to get your hood open to address the fire.

The safety crew will not expect you to have both hood pins AND a hood latch.

Just my opinion...

Installed my hood pins this weekend, and ditched the OEM hood latch hardware...also duct taped over the hood latch opening to improve air flow into the Rad.

Note: i will fabricate something over the winter, but duct duct will work for now
