Default Temp data - running with/without Engine Cover?

Anyone ever explore temperature data (engine, oil, water, hood, etc.) running the Engine Cover on vs. off?

Found this one post...but nothing definitive on if it improved under hood and engine temps. Nothing definitive on a general Google search on the topic either, just lots of speculation...

https://my350z.com/forum/engine-and-...ne-covers.html

Conventional wisdom would seem to say it would trap heat underneath it, although I guess it could be a barrier from heat above or doesn't really matter either way.

It doesn't matter. With the hood closed the engine is just as covered.

This, I dont run engine cover, or splash guard just for easy of access.

Never had temp issues.

"splash guards"...do you mean the fender well liners?

I would like to junk mine, but i was told these are critical to overall vehicle aero and cooling

Funny you ask, I ran without them (fender liners) all last season. Since my car is still driven on the street+track, that was a costly mistake.

Without them rocks and road debris gets chucked up into the engine bay, along with water and other BS. This smashed out the back of my headline housings, causing me to replace them. So I'll be putting them back in. However; I have the feeling that without them my brakes were getting more cooling. We'll see if I start to fade this year, I'll have to rig up ducting.

By splash guard I meant the under engine plastic shielding. I dont run with that.

I dont run the fenderliners, mainly because we never prefabricated them when we installed my front splitter and undertray. No issues but I do worry about my headlamps..

is that undertray thing necessary for people who don't drive over 140mph? IIRC, they give you better aerodynamic than nothing.

A~1 foot square plastic piece has nothing to do with anything performance related in any way. The only thing you will affect is the temperature of the cover itself , and aesthetics

Cooler oil temps come from an oil cooler, cooler coolant temps come from increased radiator capacity and/or increased airflow through the radiator. The underpanel helps this an serves double duty by keeping the front end from feeling "light" at speed

Unless you have an aftermarket radiator, oil cooler and your still running hot, I wouldnt bother. You would also have to cut your crash beam up to do that.
