New NASA Class for 2012: Spec Z
I don't think the rules are NASA rules for the Spec Z class. You need to talk to Nissan Motorsports if you want any rules changes.
Bob! So is that how you read the rules? Not "within Nissan spec" but whatever you can get out of THE STOCK COMPONENTS without cheater spacers or anything.
My car will be going in the shop in the next week to start getting prepared.
I've read the rules and have a few questions I'm hoping you can help with, sorry if they seem newbie but this is my first time preparing a car right to the rules limit.
1. The stock steering wheel is to be removed thus eliminating the air bag, is the passenger airbag allowed to be removed?
2. Have we determined if the RPF-1's are legal? I already own a set of 18x9s, so I don't want to be going and spending money unnecesarilly.
3. It says exhasut is open but lists Nismo as, I think the (recommended??) exhausr. I already have a true titanium catback and somewhat like it.
4. That being said, my current exhasut is a single with a dual tip muffler, it would be easy to get a straight pipe made and drop the muffler, is it legal? I'm assuming yes so long as I'm not over the hp limit.
5. Who is allowed to do the tuning or is it a preprogamed ECU?
6. If we remove the drivers side window, is a safety net required? It doesn't say anything in the rules about it. Thoughts and opinions
7. Minimum weight, is this with a full fuel load and driver, or empty, or just fuel, etc.?
8. Whats the spring rate difference between the coilover springs and the springs themselves?
9. AAny brake fluid is allowed correct?
10. I hate bringing this up but I have to ask. Do to my physical condition now, I might not be able to operate a foot clutch, that would mean I would have to run either a push button or lever actuated clutch on the shifter or maybe a paddle shifter, do any of you foresee a problem with that?
I think thats all I have for now. Thanks for the help in advance.
Oh one last one, anyone care to come to my first event to assist in setup and driving?

I started a Spec Z rules thread over in nasaforums in the Spec Z area...you might want to follow it and post real questions or suggestions...no rants plz

What Nissan wants is to get as many guys on the track in their Z cars as cheaply as possible. They also want to sell parts. I think the package they put together is very practical and not too expensive. For instance, our JRZ shocks sell for almost $8,000 for a set of 4 and the Spec Z shock package will do a good job at a far less cost. The reason why I want a 20mm spacer is that that is what is needed for certain Enkei wheels to clear the Brembo brake calipers.

Scott....good luck with the drivers school. I'm old school SCCA and with them you can't change the wording of the rules. Also "if the rules don't day you can, then you can't". My philosophy is that if you cheat to win you cheat your selfrespect. I think Nissan might fine tune the rules a bit but not sure when.

Oh, and my SpecZ suspension has landed! We'll install it next week. I agree about the cheating - and that certainly isn't my intent - I just didn't follow how it was written, so was looking for other opinions. The race car has OEM arms all around anyway, but I was curious if we'd have to dial out the camber to meet the spec sheets from Nissan based on how low the car will be after we install the spec suspension goodies.
Here is a link to the NASA CCRs...read them well and many car-build questions are answered .

You ask some very good questions. I can answer all of them it we are talking about a car prepared for SCCA, but this is NASA and I don't know their rules so you better get the answers either through NASA or Nissan Motorsports. ONe thing though is that you want all your airbags taken out. I think they allow anything with the ECU because they don't have the ability to check what you did and if everyone has the access to people like Up Rev then everyone is equal and it might as well be unrestricted. BTW Up RFev found about 7 to 9 HP for us at the SCCA Runoffs last September.
Scott...can you list the parts you received? and Pics would be great also

Thanks, Bob, on my way soon!

nothing on the rules..
But I have been informed that NASA has selected a Spec Z National Director and it will be announced very soon...like today or 1st of next week!
Once this is complete...I suspect a serious discussion of the rules will take place.

Bit of good news...my wife is being supportive of the decision to sell the G35 to get a Z for the series...I have a few more parts to get to prepare the car for sale, but I am hoping to have it ready and listed by the end of March.
Congrats!
