The upcoming issue of Nissan Sport magazine will have Spec Z as part of the motorsports section. It's a big enough story to run right after coverage of Nissan's LeMans effort and in front of our Formula One preview with Red Bull Racing and the Infiniti connection. The conversion of Project 350Z T2 over to Spec Z and my experience racing in the series will be part of the plan to offer the most coverage of Spec Z than any other publication on the market.

This new issue (#22) will be at the printer later this month, with polybagged issues into subscriber hands shortly afterwards. Barnes & Noble, Hastings and other booksellers will also have Nissan Sport for sale towards the end of the month.

Sweet! Hopefully NSM will follow-up with some Zs that are in the series! I look forward to the read.

Beyond the announcement in the motorsports section (spring) and project car article for summer, the plan includes limited coverage of the NASA Nationals at Mid-Ohio this fall. I'd like to get a shot of the entire Spec Z class lined up on the pit straight.

Here's where I'm at now.
Since my car was a street car I tracked I'm having to do a lot to get my car prepared. I'm having a local shop build my car for me since I'm unable to do it. The company ran a Grand-Am car for the last 10yrs or so and I THINK they ran a 350z a while ago, thats the information I got from my father.
Parts ordered, we are receiving parts now, not all are in.
Evo seat
Schroth Hans harness
hans mounts
clutch
nismo flywheel
berk test pipes

I am completing the Nissan registration now and will fax it in. Once that's complete I'll be able to order the rest of the parts

As for personal stuff, had surgery on Monday for tendon transfer on my right foot and Friday I head back in for more surgery this time on my right arm. We will be doing a nerve alograph (nerve graph, transplant), ho removal and some minor plastic surgery. All this should help me grab the shifter so I can bang gears

I've been tracking my zed for 2 years now (currently at DE3/4 level) on fairly stock setup. I am wanting to do suspension work to get more out of the car with future w2w racing in mind. Initial plan was to target T2 rules, but this SpecZ thing is tempting. Considering spec KW will run around 2k-roughly double the T2 Koni setup, I would hate to buy the expensive spec KW and see the Spec series die before I get to the w2w level (likely still 2 years out). Thoughts? Is SpecZ going to live? Would NASA consider allowing T2 suspension down the road?

Even if it dies you can have the KW dampers valved for your new needs, they are a great set of coilovers. You will have a great diff, possibly great swaybars etc etc. In the end you will have a good starting platform for PT-B , just not T2.

Note: I believe the T2/T3 class is not a good place for the 350z any longer...that is a key driver to Nissan creating the Spec Z class with NASA. So building a car for those specs isn't a good plan.

I have heard as much elsewhere. I'm going to try make it to a few NASA events (Aug9 at RA and Oct20 at AMP) this year as HPDE with the hope of seeing SpecZ in full tilt and chatting it up with participants.

As far as my car setup, will wait on the KWs and just get the spec sways this year. I also want to do bushings, but the NASA rule book makes no mention- legal?

Thanks,
Igor

The default rule is if it isn't mentioned as an allowed modification then OEM only.

So does that mean they will be checking tire pressure because it's not listed in the rules and OEM pressure is like 32psi.

If I have my way in NASA-SE, we will only be checking the BIG STUFF the first year while the build process is going on...suspension, wheels. tires, HP and weights, and of course !!safety stuff!! However if someone is beating me regularly...you will be DQ'd immediately for having an illegal defroster.

Year 2 and later, folks should be pretty dayum close to Spec if they want to run and win regionally and for sure nationally.

Woot!
Brought home my 2003 Z Touring yesterday - bone stock - so, off to purchase parts, so, the question is - where is the best (least expensive) place to get the necessary items:
Suspension Kit
Brakes

Thanks - really looking forward to this project!

I believe all the Spec Z parts can be purchased from any NISMO parts retailer...like many sponsors of this forum. If you are a racer with a competition license, and are registered with NISSAN Motorsports, I believe there is some discount available...but don't know how much.

I plan to order my suspension this week as well. I will let you know what I find out (I am racer and registered w/NISSAN)
