Did my first event with the Spec shocks and springs (sway bars are on back order?). Lots of oversteer, I didn't like it. Lots of work to dial it all in. One more track day before the first SpecZ event.

Did you use a square wheel setup?

Where was the oversteer, neutral throttle or applied throttle?

I know!

I should have clarified. It was on applied throttle, track out. These are turns I'm very familiar with, and used to be able to power out of with the last set-up. The rear springs are WAY stiffer than what I'm used to, so maybe that's part of it.

Has anyone else seen the set-up? There is a mini spring with the kit, a "helper" spring, I believe they call it. When this helper spring is installed and the ride height is minimized, that minimum height was about as high as stock in the rear. We took out the helper spring and were able to lower the car to what I'm used to (low 25s front, high 25s rear). The shop said the install was pretty straight forward otherwise, but we were back-and-forth with this mini spring.

I'm going to drive another event on 4/6 to try and dial it all in - hopefully the sways (that I've paid for) will be in by then. Ideas to counter the o/s? Loosen rear sways, reduce compression setting on shocks, etc.?

I'd losen things up a bit. How many settings do the sways have? Maybe dial in under steer then tighten things back up to your liking.

Do you think the LSD was causing 1 wheel spins?

The current sways have 3-settings, I don't know what the SpecZ sways have though. It still has the NISMO diff, and it's tight. The car handled superbly two weekends ago with everything the same minus the KWs instead of the Motons.

Will do.

Wavetrak going in this week, and hopefully the sways arrive and those go in as well. I also hope that any rule adjustments are released soon - especially if there is an allowance for control arms, as the car is only at 2 degrees of camber in the front right now, and daddy likes a bit more than that.

Thanks for the heads up Scott. Looking forward to hearing how the Wavetrac does.

Great update Scott...was there any room to get more front camber with a lower ride height that wasn't damaging?

Yeah, it could probably go lower in the front, but I wanted to keep the rake in check since the rear is almost bottomed out.

Scott
If the sways come in and assuming the front bar is stiffer than your current try running the new bar on full stiff. If you're doing one tire fires on corner exit this should help. If that helps Or doesn't help then try running the rear at full soft
You were running the r1s? Were the scrubs or a brand new set? What was your tire wear like?

Supposedly, I have the NISMO sways on the car now. They are discontinued, so I couldn't easily confirm that's what they were. I'll do as you suggest when the Spec sways come in - thanks. No, I was on V710s. I ran them with SCCA two weekends earlier, and they were great. Tire wear in the rear was not great, so I put that tire up front on the inside.

Off topic - has anyone found/ordered the "Lug nut Spec Motorsport open end (20 needed) 40222-SS000"?

I can't find them anywhere, and am just trying to live by the letter of the law.

I am pretty sure we get our open end lug nuts from Summit Racing in Ohio where we also get our ARP wheel studs.

Neither of those are legal for the class is my problem. I found/ordered the NISMO studs, but can't find the spec lug nut. Seems silly, I know, but if I'm building spec I am building spec.

Have you called Nissan USA? Phone number on page one of the catalog here:
http://www.nissanusa.com/nismo-web/N...talog-2010.pdf

I'm curious Scott (trying to learn), did you lower the rear pressures at all to try and counteract the oversteer? If not, why?

I'll call them - thanks.
I did lower the tire pressures. I'm pretty "dialed in" with tire pressures based on my old set-up, but it was still really touchy.

Agreed. Here is Appendix A:
Wheel
Wheel stud Spec: NISMO 60mm (2 needed) 40222-RS045
Lug nut Spec: Motorsport open end (20 needed) 40222-SS000

Only question is how to determine "recommended".
