Car is looking good. Glad to hear you are putting down the same times as you were in PTB.

An 03-04 built to SZ would land in PTB with some points to spare.

I forgot...I think you have an 07. They are higher base classed.

Those stinkers never sent me a suit patch either, cuz they're "out of stock" from when I ordered them in FEBRUARY. :0

Care to share what you learned about tire pressures settings, front and rear sway, and compression and rebound? What kind of camber were you able to get? I'm quite camber challenged now. . .

You did two days of 20/20/30min (practice/qual/race)? How was the diff, and how's the fluid smelling?

I was at NASA's Hyperfest at Summitpoint this weekend and I do not think there was a single Spec-Z running around, lots of Z's, but I did not hear one whisper about the spec class. I just think no one jumped to rush into it this season in the Mid-A, maybe more next year.

John,
I think once you guys get 3-4 regulars you should do an East Coast tour to promote Spec Z.

Guys,
I have both cars completely spec-prepped now, and I have a lot of interest from locals in renting my #12 car to compete in SpecZ. I'm trying to figure out how to make it worthwhile, fair, and secure. I've been back-and-forth on what it could cost, and I think the big monkey wrench is what kind of brake pads (and their cost) and if they want fresh tires to compete on. I also don't want 10 different options for them, further confusing the issue. These were my thoughts:

Option 1: Scrub R1 tires, pads of my choice ($$)
Option 2: I provide wheels, they procure tires and pads on their own ($)
Option 3: I provide fresh R1 tires and we work together on the pads ($$$)

Any thoughts on the PER DAY cost for $, $$, and $$$? You all know what it takes to maintain these cars. I believe spec Miatas - with whatever scrub tires and pads the owners decide to put on them - run for ~$500/day with a $10k retainer.

That is a good 2013 game plan

My former partner and I each paid into a general fund $500 per day of track usage to fund the day-to day maintenance of the car. We planned to raise that to $800 a day to cover "capital" cost like engines...that was just to break even...no profit factored in. And we had to pay in additional funds if we blew and engine...but $1600 a day paid for both of use to drive a well prepared car.

I wouldn't rent mine to anybody for <$1000 a day, more likely $1500 with a discount for multi-day rentals. (that includes tires and brakes - scrubs)

And think about it...that is the cheapest way anybody can race a relatively fast and quality car

*You also need to factor in transportation charges...If you deliver it to the track you charge more. If they pick it up at your shop, that is another price point. And who provides the trailer?? that factors into your charge/cost

The car ran well...no major diff issues. However i did find Diff Oil on my trailer when I got home...not a lot, but clearly leaking from the Driver side.
I don't think it came from the overflow either. i will check it this weekend a report back. I think it is leaking from the stuff axle seal...

The only handling issue I had was sever push in T7 at Road Atlanta...it is a more than 90 deg right hander taken around 50-60 MPH. If i took it like I did in my old setup, it would just plow off the track no matter what I did. I never got that right the entire weekend. I don't know if that was the Diff or the Suspension.

i ran within 1/2 sec of my previous personal best (1:44.9) that I ran last December when it was cool and nice conditions...it was 80 or so this weekend...so that time is pretty good. Clark Crawford ran 1;43;5 all weekend.

A full write up to follow soon...

Hi guys, I need to reach out to anyone that is willing to help me. I have a race next weekend and I am short one of the short stub axles. Nissan told me a week ago it would be 5 days before I could have one. Now they are telling me that it won't even be in the country until the 29th which is the day I have to be at the track.

If anyone could be my hero, and let me borrow one of the short stub axles for just next weekend I would be a happy camper. I am already registered for the whole weekend and I would be really upset if I had to miss the whole thing. The axles are very simple to remove and can be done without removing the diff from the car. I would pay for shipping and whatever you want to borrow.

Please help me out if you could. I can remove it and ship it right back after the race.

Post up on the club forums. Those stub axels were stock with the VLSD, right? Maybe one of the guys with a project Z33 can help?

I think they are on the stock VLSD. I was just about to do that actually. I need this ASAP.

I'm not a racer, but might be at some point, but it seems to me that it would be nice if some enterprising shop would come up with a rear end swap program. In other words, they prep a complete rear end with the Wave Trac LSD that all you have to do is bolt it in place. You buy it and send them your stock rear end.
