Random question for you guys....have any of you tracked your cars using the stock VLSD? If so, how good or bad was it?
I am not liking the feedback about this Wavetrac unit and I am thinking of running the stock unit to save some cash and headache, but I've never ran it before.

The first T2 National I ran my Z33 in, I had to use the VLSD unit. Running R888s, the OEM VLSD was overheating badly. I'd changed over to synthetic 75-90W before the race weekend, but it made no difference. That rear was smoked (literally) after that weekend. You'll have more headaches running the OEM unit than the Wavetrac...
Until you go SpecZ, I'd run your OEM unit OR grab a different aftermarket unit (shameless-plug-I'm-selling-my-complete-NISMO-unit) while Wavetrac uses guys like us to shake out the bugs on their unit.
ps - I think most of the races are 30 minutes, with the practice/qual sessions being 20 minutes. I did, however, have a 50 minute race on Sunday in lieu of a qual session because of a 4hr Enduro in the morning.

Thanks so much Scott. Hopefully they get this Wavetrac issue figured out. Sounds like it would be ok for me in TT at the moment, but not so much for W2W. Let's all put in for a Nismo, Carbonetics or OS Giken...or just leave it opn to all LSD's
Sucks to hear all the wavetrac issues. The rules allow a diff cooler so would that be something to look into? https://my350z.com/forum/7341926-post10.html
So I did the shifter detente adjustment...thnx jlvvega.
That didn't fix the issue, but appeared to help some. Looks like if i shift with very little force, but still quickly...it works fine, if I shift hard and quickly..it grinds. The problem appears to be related to the shift linkage...
this only happens during a 4 to 5 ger change...no other time.
I also adjusted and bleed the clutch...no change.
Not sure what to do now...other than replace the tranny and clutch assy

I this different than the adjustment I just did?

Also, I forgot to mention that the tranny is making some strange noises in 5 & 6th...the noise is intermittent as well.
Trying to decide if I should try to run the June Jam race like this or bite the billet and sway to tranny and clutch oput prior to the event...

Z1 Motorsports has brand new CD009 trans for <$1800..and I need swp to a single plate clutch and stock flywheel as well...I guess I just have to bit-the-bullet and do the swap now...then I will be 100% Spec Z legal
So, i understand that WaveTrac has now stated that Motul is the Gear Oil of choice...I'm gonna call to confirm this week...

#############################################
I had planned to use Redline 75w140 NS fluid...that doesn't have any friction modifiers...
http://www.redlineoil.com/product.aspx?pid=39&pcid=4
140 NS GL-5 Gear Oil
Contains extreme pressure additives like our 75W140 GL-5 oil, but lacks friction modifiers to balance slipperiness
Popular for historic and vintage transmissions, like Mid-1930s to early-1950s synchro-equipped gearboxes in cars and trucks
Helps with noisy or rough shifting in troubled A-833 Dodge/Plymouth 4-speed transmissions from 1964 to 1969
Option for noisy transmissions when mixed with 75W90NS or MT-90 to bring viscosity level up
Also used in clutch-type limited slip differentials in racing for maximum lock up-some users add Limited Slip Friction Modifier in small doses to customize slippage
Recommended for API GL-5, GL-6, MT-1, MIL-L-2105E, and SAE J2360
Then today, a Spec Z racer told me he talked with Wavetrac and they are now recommending Motul 75x140 Comp
http://performanceoilstore.com/proddeta ... rod=823511
Motul GEAR COMP 75w140 1L
1 liter container (enter 12 for case discount) Specially formulated for gear boxes and limited slip differentials for race cars. Motul exclusive technology approved for extreme endurance racing conditions: 24 Hrs Lemans, Japanese GT Championship, Hewland and X-Trac gearboxes. Nissan Non-Nismo diff.
Price: $29.95
