[QUOTE=laze1;9800706]So, I was thinking (warning warning warning ) if I can increase the amount of fluid that is circulating thru my diff via the pump/cooler, I should be better able to control (lower) the Diff temps...right????

So if this is true, I wonder if I should create a storage tank in my Diff cooler plumbing? This should not be hard to do since I am already re-installing my Pump/cooler and making up new hoses...and this already adds some-to-be-determied amount of fluid to the system...and more fluid appears to be better than less fluid. I am thinking of adding a small tank like a dry-sump engine might use...

Note: As you know, the Nissan Diff only hold 1.4 liters of fluid...that appears NOT be enough to provide any cooling affects.

Comments plz!!!

Thinking out side of the box here. What if you added a coil of thin wall aluminium tubing submersed in a container full of ice water to the system.

This would give you your added volume and give off tons more heat than a fluid to air system. Kind of like a cool suit for your diff.

^^Yes more fluid would 'assist' in cooling but I'm thinking the best method would be to set up a conventional diff cooler in free air. Problem being 'free air'... you could easily relocate a cooler to the front of the car however, that may be an issue for a pump designed and spec'd to run a significantly lower volume. Only trial and error would tell whether that option is viable.

You could also use the Nismo location, but I would assume one of two things... they added a second cooler back there for a reason. Either the air flow is so bad they needed the additional capacity or they are cooling more than the diff (possibly the trans). Being this is for a seq. box I would assume the second core is to cool the gearbox.

He is another SCCA guy coming over to NASA...I just reached out to him last week as I "heard through the grapevine" that he was coming to Road Atlanta in Aug...be didn't hear back from him.

I've dealt with Bill a lot as well - great guy, and seemingly a fantastic racer. I've never met either of you in person, but I have imagined you two are similar in approach, personality, and helpfullness.

My first one was toast after one event. Wavetrac "replaced the old one for free" i.e. I had to have it removed and pay to ship it back to them. They sent a "modified replacement one", which I have yet to test. We will see when the new owner tests it later this month. My greenZ has an "original" WT sucko diff with their suggested fluid.

Dayum HUGE Cooler(s)...WOW....

Note: I am planning to use a conventional cooler and a sucker fan to increase air flow thru the cooler. It is the positioning of that hardware that is the issue for me...and the volumn of fluid avaiable to disapate the heat. Shiate...I need to rethink my install positioning...

I suppose this guys setup is valid...low hung...but valid!

https://my350z.com/forum/engine-and-...-question.html

again...Dayum HUGE Cooler(s)...they look like intercoolers for a big Turbo setup.

Hey guys, unfortunately I ended up hitting a tire wall at Mid-Ohio a couple weekends ago during an HPDE and insurance finally decided to not cover it. No I was not driving like an idiot, just a little over my comfort zone and crappy luck. So I'll have a potential parts car or spec-z car available for purchase soon.

Not sure if there's any interest but it's a 2005 enthusiast with only 33k miles, Brembos and all the other mods in my sig (I also have all stock parts). Not sure if the frame is damaged, but all the doors close and all the glass is intact (front corner and side corner and side collision). I'll have pics this weekend in a separate thread.

Would something like this be interesting for anyone? I'd honestly like to sell the car as a whole first before thinking of parting it out.

Rob, sorry to hear that (I can see your original post). I maybe interested in the rear brembos.

Ugh!!!!! Been there, done that and it absolutely SUCKS!!!!! But why not have it repaired ? On my car, every body panel was a mess (even the roof had a fold from the impact) and I think I did better having it fixed rather than selling "as is" or parting out.
BTW, I didn't even file an insurance claim. I figured they would deny it and then jack up my rates anyway!

Sorry to here that, but I agree about buying the car back as a salvage and turning into a true track rat if possible.

Sorry to hear man... IIRC Insurance companies used to cover the HPDE stuff then they decided it was too risky and stopped. Sucks though... I didn't get a reduction in insurance costs when they lowered the coverage... go figure.

I've always thought that was a sketchy track to drive a DD on. DD's are a little bad on those type of rolling corners and hills, and the walls are fairly close considering the entry speeds in those areas. Maybe I'm just spoiled with So. Cal's huge runoff areas.

Mid-O can be pretty hairy...its caught about 3 billion people out on bikes and cars. I still think the number 1 pucker factor east of the Miss is Watkins Glen. Hardly any run off and blue walls staring at you the whole way around.

Just got the car back in my garage, cosmetically the passenger side doesn't look so good. But it looks to be mostly cosmetic. The car still rolls and the motor still fires. Front is crushed in but still space between the fan and the motor. I'll have a thread up sometime next week.

I think it has good potential to become a spec-Z car. I actually have a friend coming to take a look at it this weekend for possible spec-Z.

The car wasn't my dd, but was a nice weekend street car. And yeah, I"ve had two friends get covered for crashing at HPDE's but that was a couple years ago and I'm sure the insurance agency's changed their policies since then. Sucks but it is what it is. Mid-Ohio was my favorite course too

Diff cooler roughed-in, using used left over stuff...hope it works. But most of the hard work is done. Need to finish the hardware install , then wire the pump and sucker fan up to a manual switch...more to follow...

Blue thingy is a check valve so oil will not drain back to the diff
Red thingy is a oil filter
Sucker fan mounted to the top of the oil cooler

Note: Setrab sez this mounting position (horizontal) is not optimal. As oil may flow thru the cooler without getting maximum cooling.
