They wont let us run in HPDE anymore ...

NO more outside passes around the outside of the keyhole.........I think that might have been the straw last year.

BJ: Does the Mychron use GPS to generate a track map and let you to store and download performance data to your PC?

The basic MaxQData module is only $550, to which you have to add a Pocket PC, at anywhere from $200 to $400, but you can, of course use it as your regular PDA. You can also add an optional GPS unit (which I already have).

So the $1,000 I mentioned is the top end, and includes stuff you can use for other everyday purposes outside your car. It looks like a flexible and reasonably priced system to me. Check out the site at the link in my last post.

EnthuZ: I think 2 would be right. Of course, I believe that last year they combined 2 and 3. So it might not make a difference.

I believe the new model that they had at the PRI show uses a GPS system. I dont have the price on that unit as of yet but will find out next week. The system they have now just does it by the G load sensor.
I can do a special on the MyChron3+Auto's for the My350Z crowd if we get enough interest.
All data can be transfered to a laptop and plotted. Its a very nice system. A lot of the F2000 teams are going with this system as it is 100's of $ less that other systems.
The system you are talking about sounds pretty goos also... love all that data!

I just registered as well, but only signed up for two days since I'm not sure if I'll be able to get enough time off from work. I'm sure Lawrence would let me add Friday at the last minute since it doesn't normally fill up (IIRC). Unfortunately I won't be running in your group, but I'll be running with James for the first time, and Nate will be present for the chase as well.

What kind of safety equipment is required for participation in the Mid-Ohio? This is very tempting

If you have a convertible, you need an approved rollbar. Otherwise all you need is a helmet, long pants, and long-sleeved shirt.

It's the most fun you can have with your pants on.

Awesome! I was fearing that a roll-cage may be required even for coupes.

The pants thing is a bummer... I usually drive in my boxers (every little bit counts when it comes to saving weight ya know).

Question Questio about NASA?

Like I stated earlier, I committed and signed up for 3 days. Got my CC bill today.....NASA has MY money!

I've always paid with a check for my track days......they have NEVER been cashed BEFORE the event. WTF......is this common?

When I order an item, paid with a CC, I've never been charged till it's been shipped.

I would not have signed up if I couldn't afford it, but this SUCKS!

I don't want to discourage anyone from going to this event, as I'm looking forward to tracking with new Z competitors.

Look at it this way, you'll just have some "extra" money laying around come tax time (Mid-Ohio time).

yeah, last year they didn't charge my card until after the event I don't think.

I'm just hoping the weather is nice... i.e. no rain or snow like last year.

We might be bringing some extra sway bars and such with us if anyone would be interested in testing them. Let me know.

BJ,

Are you saying we could put them on while there, and decide whether to keep them after trying them on the track? If we decide not to, would there be a return fee or anything?

How long does it take to install them? (Assuming an average guy, not a master mechanic.) Would you or someone else be able to help, or at least provide advice and help if needed?

I would be interested in testing your anti-sway bars. I really like my Cusco's, but it would be educational to try yours. Saturday night switch in a garage? Test on Sunday, after learning the track, and switch back Sunday evening?

BTW.......are you still working on a brake duct kit for streetable Z's? And not just fronts......a rear kit is NEEDED.

Yes, I reserved a garage. I think we could share it with one more person willing to split the $175 cost (i.e. about $60), especially if he were in a different run group from John and me (we've both signed up for group 3).

I'm toying with the idea of buying at least two sets of brake pads and trying them on different days. I know that we'll have a bunch of guys with different pads there, but unless we let each other drive our cars (which I would be okay with me, at least in some cases), there won't be a way to directly compare pads under your own driving style.

But why not think about swapping? For instance, I know John well enough that I'd be willing to let him drive a couple of laps in my car with (for example) PFC 01 pads, if I can try the Cobalts (and the 350EVO sway bars!) in his car.

For other folks who haven't met F2F, after getting to know each other (perhaps by riding as passenger for a few laps), we might be able to work out other swaps, too. There would be no obligation, and no one would be criticized for not wanting to let someone else drive his car, but there may be some chances to do it. It would certainly be a better way to directly see the differences between pads (and other mods) than trying to compare lap times, or just sitting around saying, Mine are better than yours. What do you think?

Maybe BJ will let us drive the racecar! LOL j/k

Sure, we can swap cars for a bit. Also, looks like we need a 3rd person for the garage. Anyone else interested?

James, I'll be the 1st to offer to help share your garage costs/space. And I'm open to let EXPERIENCED drivers try my Z with Stoptechs & Carbotech pads......not sure which I'll be using, XP's or Panther +'s.

As to swapping sway bars....I installed my Cusco's myself in a bit less than 3 hours......I'm sure we could cut that time a lot with helpers.

No more calls, ladies and gentlemen! We have a winner!

EnthuZ: Okay, you're in. If they keep Groups 2 and 3 separate this year, that will be ideal. If they combine them like they did last year, well, we'll just have to get real chummy.

It's possible that John and I may have our new Piper Motorsports roll bars in by then. On Saturday, John and I saw the cage that Jon was talking about elsewhere, and we were both impressed. The design is very clean, and fits right inside the A pillar and roof without cutting any plastic. We don't need the full cage, but it looks like a roll bar based on their design would be much preferable to, say, the Kirk. It interferes less with the passenger seat and allows you to get into the storage space behind.

The Piper cage sends diagonals back behind the rear cross brace, which blocks the rear view much less than the Kirk seemed to. But it pretty much kills the storage space between the brace and the seats. I'm hoping that for my car, if not John's, they'll send the diagonals to the plates they used to install my harnesses, right behind the seats.

I'll have Stoptech stainless steel brake lines and my MaxQData data acquisition system by then. I'm still toying with the idea of getting the Technosquare chip upgrade, too. BJ: you have that in your car, right?
