My car is at the shop getting a cage, sucks getting a bunch of weight put back in but safety first.
I'm hoping I can offset most of the cage weight by running less gas and some more gutting.

Now I need to get a steering wheel and adapter, any suggestions?
I am not sure exactly. They did some gutting while caging. But net result is really 90 lbs lighter than I was originally with the 4 point.

They removed the 4 point entirely and made a custom 6 point.

removed heater core, doors gutted, rear strut tower replaced, etc. oem glass bolts in now, because for my time attack class I need oem glass.

You could remove the engine cover to run a hair cooler and drop about a pound

Also the engine itself has about 3-4lbs of misc brackets on it! I'm sure you are well aware all the other bits and pieces you can do but being in a specific class I doubt how far you can legally go. Secondly I would put the battery cover and brake fluid covers back on and electronic gel around all the connection in those areas as water can and has go into those area !?!?!?!?!

One last thing, what shoes do you wear ?

It's crazy that even with the spare out of the Z car, what little horsies we have come alive...lol

After my engine build I had alot of extra brackets that I did not put back on, like kingbaby said, it did add up, probably about 10 ish pounds, the biggest and heaviest was the brace that goes between the exhaust and mounts to the transmission.

Nice, thanks for the heads up on the misc engine stuff. I asked the shop (MAD MOTORSPORTS) to take out anything they can from the engine compartment to save weight (within reason!). They will be gutting the hood too.

Hope to get some pics soon!

I haven't had experience with track PPE. So you can basically keep your heal to the floor? As I always try to improve my comfort even though I continually take away from it, thinking I might add more padding below the carpet cause it's all melting lol

I wear Simpson race shoes, not enough at all. I have blistered my heal from heat and filled my interior with smoke. My shoe had smoke rolling off it when I got out of the car after a 30 minute session.

Wow, haven't had those kind of issues even at Sebring in June! I use $25 Payless shoes for track duty

I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on a steering wheel:
Sparco 383 Lap Steering Wheel SP-15N25, Diameter - 330mm. Dish - 39mm.
Seems 330mm is the preferred diameter for Z when using racing seat?

Have to figure out what to do for quick release now, what do you all think of the NRG short hub + quick release?

I'm not alone...my carpet has melted and the nismo floor mat goes through it's own heat cycle

So, after installing headers, it gets hot enough to melt carpet and shoes? How close is the header from the body of the car underneath?

I will be completely honest, I ran OBX long tubes with header wrap on them and never had any problems with hot carpet or floor. The Trans tunnel got hot sometimes though.

Is all this melting with or without heat wrap? I never have any temp issues with my driving shoes on.

No heat wrap on mine, no problems if the ambient is below about 70. The 120 degree days in Vegas and Willow, holy puck it sucks.

I now have a heat shield that my door rests on, giving me a gap to the floorboards and with insulation. When I fully cage it, my false floor will be higher in the pedal box.

I wish I still had my 350Z, what a beast it would be now if I still had it... I imagine I would be going down a similar path as you terrasmak.
