Default Which track tire ?

Hi,

I run 265/35 18 Toyo R888 square setup.

Need to replace my fronts. I found they loose lots of grip when the temperature is hot...

Which tire do you use ?

I'm considering :

- R888R : but i've seem some bad review, slower and worse worn rate

- Nankang AR-01 : seems fast when temperature is cold. But wear rates and performance on hot weather ? Little feedback (only one Z test, as fast as DZ03G on cold)

- Dunlop DZ03G : the best, but very expensive...in France

- Federal FZ201 : they are good and not so expensive but can't find them in France

- Avon ZZR : not so fast ?

- A048 : too expensive (i use AD08R on road and spirited driving they are very good. Used them on the track as well, quite fast and durable)

Don't want full slicks yet....

What would you take ?

Thanks

Actually, Toyo has the RR which is more of a true R-compound tire. They also had the RA1, which was a better tire than the R888 IMO. Hate to say it, but don't skimp on tires- get the best ones or don't go!

Personally, I'm on the BFGoodrich G-Force R1-S and I'll stick with it!

I run Hankook TD 295/30 C70 square and love them.

Hankook Ventus TD Z221

The Z221 is the pinnacle of semi-slick, R-compound tyres. It is the tyre of choice for some of the world’s fastest time attack vehicles, thanks to its unrivalled performance (DOT-approved, E-marked).

Thanks for your feedbacks

I'll see if some of the tires you mentionned are available in Europe...

Quite strange we don't have the same tires in Europe and US ...

Actually, it's not so strange that performance tire models differ between Europe and the North American market. Some brands, like Hoosier, produce their tires primarily for the USDM only. Others, like Dunlop and Michelin, are much more euro-focused and have models we rarely ever see over here.

For the Euro market you are looking at Michelin pilot sport cup 2's, Federal 595 RSR, Toyo R888R, Advan A048, Dunlop Direzza 03G, or the pirelli's.

at the last Time Attack event, The Dunlop 03G's and pilot sport cup 2's were getting some good times in the club class. In the pro Class #1 was on R888R's, I was #3 was on Hankooks TD Z221 hard compound the rest were on r888's or michelins.

You should try the soft compound, there's a big difference

I wanted medium to be honest, but there are no 285/30/18 mediums anywhere. I would overheat softs on the qualifying round if I ran them. The softs would be perfect for the 1 lap championship round though. Unfortunately I don't have the cash to run 2 compounds. So I went with hard that I could use the few warm up laps it to get my driving lines perfected and then do 5 hard laps to assure my place in the championship rounds.

The only authorized dealer in the US for the TD's is Discount Tire. I can't read French but I found the TD's on Hankook's French website. You should talk to a Hankook dealer

http://www.hankooktire.com/fr/compet...s-td-z221.html

Also found them on the German website

http://www.hankooktire.com/de/compet...s-td-z221.html

Need to have your local Hankook dealer contact Hankook direct, my local Discount Tire dealer didn't even now he could get them until he called Hankook

I'm struggling to find the right sizes for my 9,5/10,5 rpf-1 (18). Most good semislick tires like 03g, fz-201, ar-1 have 265/35 for front and 285 or 295 for rear but with lower profile of 30!
Only Toyo r888r and Federal RS-RR have the right sizes with matched profile (255/35 + 275/35).

I'm looking for a tire for a wole season from March to November and I'm a bit worried that r888r will be too soft during hot summer days (25-30C). So I was thinking about fz-201, although these on the other hand need a lot of warming up before they start to perform well and might be tricky during colder days like last Sunday (6-7C). Is there a tire that would be a compromise between these two? If not, will it be ok to run 265/35 and 285/30? (ESP killswitch installed).
