Default My 04 350z HPDE/Time Attack/Autocross build thread

Hi everybody

I purchased my 142k mile 2004 Z Touring about 3 months ago for $2000. It was cheap because it was overheating (and some other minor issues that have all been fixed) and the previous owner didn't know why. I ruled out head gasket before purchase. Apparently they just didn't bleed it right because I followed the FSM bleed procedure and have since put 3000 miles on it with 0 issues.

The car was bone stock aside from a mishimoto radiator and some no name catback exhaust. Seems to have been taken care of pretty well for most of it's life and then changed hands to a sub-optimal owner at some point.

Since I bought it, I've done the following
  1. Replaced camshaft position sensor because it was throwing a code
  2. Front LCA and sway bar poly bushings
  3. Front lower ball joints
  4. replaced blown rear shocks with KYBs
  5. Oil change with 5w-30 (might go 10w-40 before it sees track per some advice I got)
  6. Redline Transmission (MT-90 GL-4 75W-90) and Differential (75W90 GL-5 Synthetic Gear Oil for Hypoid Limited Slip Differentials) fluids
  7. Enkei RPF1 18x10.5 +15 and Continential ECF 275/35/18
  8. Z1 Forged Race FUCA (haven't installed yet, bought because i have a little rub under compression in front on fender, -3 deg camber should bring it in by about 1.5in so I think it'll do the trick)
Here's how we're looking

Plans for the car is primarily seat time maximization and dollar stretching because I still am a pretty new driver. I have a handful of trackdays and autocross events under my belt with a FWD platform. Lessons learned from that car were that going full race car means it's a chore to drive around/to work, so this one will retain interior, AC, speakers and soft springs for a long time.

I have done an autocross with the car before I put the wheels and tires on and had a blast. I plan on upgrading to front brembos, hawk hp plus pads front and rear, steel brake lines and high temp fluid before hitting up the track so that I don't die. Harris Hill Raceway in San Marcos, TX is my home, but hopefully I will be able to do at least one event at COTA this year before they go private.

I'll try to keep this thread updated. My first confirmed event will be octane time attack in March. Will probably do a track day or two before then as well as at least one autocross. I plan on keeping the car in this configuration until then but who knows.
